Default tracker motor question

i got a 91 tracker with the 8v motor. im starting to get a rod knock.. so im trying to decide between rebuilding it and swapping it out.

im guessing theres no other motors that will fit the little geo trans so just wondering about options for engine tranny combos. i see alot of 4.3s and and a few 2.8s going in but wasnt sure about the tranny.

thanks for any advice

The guys I know that have swapped motors put a tracker body on a jeep frame. More of a drivetrain swap. Small block or 4.3 with a t350 is what I have seen done.

If it was me I would find another running 8 valve, slap it in with a new timing belt and be cruizing in a day. A engine swap will take a lot of time.

Im impressed , I have beat the shit out of a lot of 8 valve motors and never seen one develope a rod knock. Was it run out of oil at some point?

most of the suzuki vendors offer kits to swap different motors in.

the easiest from where your at would be a 1.6L 16v....

the 2.0L kit from trail tough is also an option. you stray to far from there you will be making your own parts pretty much.

avoid lightning conversions at all costs

i have had a 2.8 and then I went to the 4.3 in my tracker. I run a 700r4 trans and 208 tcase. But the stock axles wont handle it. I went with dana 30/35 axles and made the dana 30 a pass drop. Im working on going to yota axles now. I have a yota axle in the rear but dont have the front yota axle finished to go in yet. I like having the 4.3 plenty of power for the small vehicle.
