I didn't read all of the thread, but could it be the pin out on the plug?

I hate to say it but you are not going to have super good luck finding one. (From my understanding) 2001 computers are only interchangeable with 2001 computers - best bet is daveys I would think. OR send that one out to get rebuilt? That one I mentioned I purchased refurbished was in Florida - I think they only charged $100ish? I'll try to find a name if you are interested.

EDIT. Did you try your hair dryer thing then unplugging the wire things one by one? Maybe it does have something to do with how it's connected - a short caused by heat? Just grasping.

the heat from the hair dryer was directed at the back of the pcm to eliminate heating the wires.

The wire harness seems to be intact with no loose or corroded terminals. No sign of overheating at all I've even peeled back all the wrap on the harness to reveal the wires. Nothing out of the ordinary was noticed

I've found several 01 pcms on line. The part numbers are identical besides the flash update code. The last two letters (eg. AA, AF,AG ect.) is just a flash revision. As long as the part number, P56021-741 is the same, the last two numbers don't really matter

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

I replaced the computer with a used 01 TJ computer and all is well! I located one locally and $50 later, everything is OK!

Over 60 miles of driving and heat soak conditions and the gauges have not acted up again.

So glad to have finally put this problem to bed.
