Default Silver Lakes Trip

Looking to plan a trip up to Silver Lake from Indiana this coming summer. I have heard it can be a bear to get into the park some weekends. I went on the Silver Lake Goverment Website but I cannot find details. I just moved up here from St. Louis and have no idea

1. Can I buy a pass in advance to get in?
2. I will trailer my truck up there so do I need a pass for both to get in?
3. Can I take a 25' gooseneck in or do I just need to unload somewhere and drive in
4. Is the pass good for one day or a weekend?
5. What other details am I missing

Would probably be just for one day - 3 hour drive up there tehn 3 hours home.....no camping as of right now.

1. You buy the pass at the gate to get in. You may also want to get a voucher depending on when you go which you get the night before or early morning the day of.
2. Only need 1 pass.
3. Yes you can bring in the gooseneck
4. Depends if you buy daily or annual
5. Have fun!

2fst4you covered most of it, but here's a few more details.
The "PASS" required would be a Michigan ORV sticker on the ORV, plus a MI Recreation Passport for both the tow vehicle and the ORV. ORV permit will be $36.25 for an annual permit I think (changed this year) and the non-resident Recreation Passport is $31.10 for an annual permit and $8.55 for a daily pass per vehicle. You will also need a flag, which you can buy all over town or at one of two stores right at the entrance along with mounts if needed.
You can park at the Dune entrance, no limit on rig size.
On the summer weekends they require a voucher to get in. You get this at a separate voucher center just down the road from the entrance. No fee for this, but you will need to get in line to get it the night before, or the morning of (Holiday weekends will sell out, but most other weekends you should be able to get on on the day of but no guarantee). There are vouchers for "dune ready" meaning no trailer or tow rig, or a parking lot voucher for a tow rig. The voucher will give you a time frame that you can enter (9am-noon for example). Dune ready are never a problem to get on a normal weekend... so if the parking lot was full it may be possible to unload somewhere and drive your ORV in if it's street legal (which it looks to be in the picture), but I don't know where you'd park. The voucher center has parking but I don't think they let you stay there and unload a vehicle. But I'm sure if you had to get a dune ready voucher you could be creative and find a place to park the tow rig around town somewhere, unload and drive to the dunes. This would also save you on buying the recreation passport for the tow rig. The easiest way would probably to drive up on a Friday and just stay somewhere (campground, hotel, etc)... then you get your voucher, leave the tow rig at the hotel and just drive on in.
This website has some good general info:

or the area info on the state webpage:

Some truths & non truths above.
Dune ready;
This means you are street legal and plated. You need an ORV sticker and a day pass, or seasonal if you choose, but for your purpose, a day pass each day you are there.
From Memorial day to Labor day you need a voucher for both Saturday and Sunday. No exceptions. They are not from 9 till noon.... they are 2 hour windows. Once you go in during your specified time, you can come and go as you please, but you still have to sit in line to get back in. If you miss your specified time, you need to get a different voucher. There is no charge for a voucher. As far as I know, there is no "free" place to park your tow rig.

Parking lot;
On weekdays, it's a piece of cake to get in. On weekends, if you are only coming for the day, on Saturday you will probably not get in till afternoon sometime. Sunday, a little better. You need to get your parking lot voucher the night before.

If you want to run the dunes and it's your first time, make it a weekday. If you want to see the sights and tons of cool rigs, come Saturday. Coming as far as you are, if you want to come on the weekend, you really need to come Friday night to get a parking lot voucher.

and as far as the trailer is concerned, the parking lot can be tough to get in and out at times. I always have my 32' gn and I usually leave it at the campground and just drive the offroad rig in.

if you're not camping, then you don't have choice that I know of

And you need a least two dune flags on the front, and i think one on the back.
