3.8L reliability?

Quick question... looking at another jeep, it's an 08 Sahara. Is the 3.8L a solid motor? The 4L ed heat, but I don't know much about kj's.

Thanks,

Mark

Yes they are reliable. Some do burn oil though.

They feel like pigs though, especially with the auto, but if you pull side by side to a TJ with the 4.0 thr JK will pull away from it.

Also the auto can be geared super low due to its super high overdrive.

Ive got an 08 jk unlimited with 103xxx miles. It seems to be very reliable. At this point I think I'm doing half a quart every 2k miles.

I've got no complaints so far with mine, with an auto, about 100K, doesn't really eat oil up. Of course, the magnuson helps me enjoy it more.

I've got no real complaints with my 3.8 though it does eat oil. Not the fastest but gets the job done

my 6spd in my 08 rubi was junk, would pop out of first gear alot , glad i got rid of it, the auto in my 2010 seems seems pretty good, although the exhaust manifolds crack like crazy on the 3.8's

Watch the lower intake gasket for coolant leaking. My 07 has 72k and I just replaced it. Exhaust manifolds are good so far. Runs ok with 6 speed, but I could always use more power.

My friend has a caravan 3.8l with over 200k on it. He abuses that thing bad too.

Was looking at a 6spd, but drove and auto today and really liked it. Hoping to get it tomorrow.

That dark green looks nice. I have 70,000 miles on my 2010 and it does not burn oil (yet). Yes more power would be nice but in low range it will serve you well.

I've got a 2008, has just over 107,000. I've had the superchips flashpac on it, definitely helps a lot. I use synthetic oil only, change it every 5-6K, burns about a 1/4 quart every 3,000 miles. No complaints.
