I was told in Michigan you can get up to $1,000 now. I always thought $500 was max.

Wait wait what! Wasn't I called names for saying this.
I don't know the wording of they laws and won't take my time to search and post. But my banged up brain and on pain meds. Thinks that it's a few reasons. The biggie I see is that the minute you drop a plow- that's not insured commercially- you have No insurance.
I plowed for years, sold my trucks. I then used my tractor and did mine and a few elderly neighbors.
This year I've to many health problems to plow. I had to hire someone to do mine and get this those neighbors too. I don't pay for their plows but I had to find my replacement. Now I was able to spent time on their snow. Go inside and see how they were doing. The guys I hired can't do that, they had enough jobs before they took on mine. So every time the snow isn't done the way I would have done it my neighbors call me to complain. I then have to call my plower's and explain what they did/ didn't do right.
But I realize and my plower's ( church family members), do to, it isn't the plowing, it's that they don't have the time to go in and Talk.
I hope I die before I get old-
Oh snap !
Never mind I'm old.

No, i'm not.

You will notice i said 3+' high pile. How was it that deep? Because instead going down the road continuously and throwing the snow to the side evenly he could only make it ~30 yds before too much snow built up and his bald tired, v6 powered, half ton chevy truck wouldn't push it....meaning he had to dive off the road and pile it up. One such pile happened to land over 3/4 of my driveway. That's alot different than the county truck tossing all the snow to the side.

When your neighbors bitch about you doing a good deed, move on. Take the high road and don't start a war. In the end, it's not worth it.

Instead, take your anger out by writing and calling your congressman and representative about things that really matter. (taxes, obamacare, social issues, gun control, ORV access)

I've actually really thought about that, but whenever it happens instinct kicks in and I hit the brakes. Bastards.

Winner.
Also, if you have a friend or neighbor that plows for free, give him a couple bucks anyway. That shit is hard on vehicles/parts. My buddy plows all his friends for free (lol!), but I'm usually first on the list, and grateful as shit.

He didnt do anything to the road that the city wasnt going to do. He gave you guys extra time to clean up, and if anything you should be thankful, because who knows when the city would come through. I am sure their were people with cars that wouldnt have made it down the street. So now the only thing stopping them from leaving home is a few minutes of shoveling, not waiting for the road to be plowed. Aside from taking on the liabilty of plowing something he isnt contracted to do, i dont see anything wrong with what he did.
Depends on who you are talking about here. The OP is being very nice and people suck. Most will not give a second thought to the effort and the consideration he has given them. They just sit in their warm houses and bitch. He is in a no win situation, which I've been in to a lesser degree, and he should do what is best for himself and screw the ungrateful whiners.

The second guy who left 3' of snow in his neighbors driveway is a bit of a dick. A good deed does not leave people worse off than before the good deed. With a little forethought you can push the snow to minimize the amount in the driveways. Then go back and with two or three pushes remove what berm is left. I do it every snowfall so you'll never convince me that it is too much work.

That said, I may plow in the dick at the end of the street who keeps making me drink his beer

I plowed my driveway yesterday then sat on my hand to give myself a strange old fashion. Not one complaint heard

I have plowed 4 of my neighbors drives for free the past 5 yrs, this year my truck is down at the moment and let everyone know. Came home Monday, everyone's drive was plowed and one was not. Thought maybe someone would have common curtiousy and have mine done for me, nope! From now on I will be doing my own and that is all!

Where in Casco are you? If you are near my parents I'll tell my dad. He plows 4 or 5 of his neighbors for free and can easily tack on another on the off chance you live right down the street from them.

I'm on puttygut right by county line. I'd pay him if he could do it! Getting my snowblower going tonight regardless but appreciate the offer

That's pretty close to him (he's at Meisner and 94) but I just called him up and after plowing yesterday morning with his tractor he can no longer get it started and he's not working on it until this weekend when it's warmed up a bit. If we happen to get another storm after that though, he says he's more than happy to help... unless he's convinced my mom to go to Florida for the rest of the winter by then.

If these people are being such dbags over some snow imagine how they'd act if there was a real emergency or apocalypse. I'm glad I don't live in a subdivision or have that many neighbors. Of the few I have half are family.

X3. Just avoid it. Snowplowing can sometimes be a crazy business cause some people just won't get it and bitch every chance they get. I think that the cheap ones are the worst, Plus its been like pulling teeth with some of my jobs to get paid.
