Vortec V6 Identification help?

I have a Vortec V6 in a Wrangler that I bought and have no idea what version it is. The wiring is Rube Goldberg at best and I would like to get a wiring harness diagram so that I can reverse engineer it. I was told that the engine number was on the front of the block on the passengers side but I have taken the Alternator and bracket off and cleaned it all off but don't see any numbers at all.

Anyone know for sure where the numbers are supposed to be or is there another way to definitively determine year and version of the engine?
