Default 2000 Ram 360 gas won't get over 150 degrees?

I have a 2000 Ram with the 360 gasser in it, no matter what I do I can't get the engine temp over 150 degrees. Put a 190 degree thermostat in it and flushed the system last year, didn't make much difference. Have to run it with the radiator completely blocked at ambient temperature below 40 degrees to get it up to about 170-190 and the heat is ok. Now, with the radiator completely blocked, it barely gets to 150 and the heat sucks! I know it's only 13 degrees out, but last winter in the same temps I could get it to 170 with the rad completely blocked. Ideas?

Buy another new stat. They are cheap, easy to install and sometimes they are junk right out of the box. I figured this out after some very frustrating issues with my jeep.

You can even test your thermostat with a thermometer and a pot of water on the stove to see when it opens.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I was thinking t stat again, just don't feel like messing with it in this cold weather. The housing is a PITA to get to. I've got time to mess with it after xmas, thought maybe I was missing something in the meantime.

Ive found that on the housing if you cut off the tab that says "front" it will allow you to sneak it out without taking the alt or a/c comp off. Cleaning the gasket surface is still a pain in the ass tho. Also is that a digital temp reading or just what the cluster says?

That's what the dash gauge reads, and it's gotta be close because the heat in the cab sucks!

If your radiator is clogged so it your heater core.

Flush them out or replace them.

I would check actual engine temp..
I have seen many gauges off by 30 to 40 degrees.

Flush the heater core with a garden hose both ways till it runs clear.

Discovered the t stat and fan clutch are both bad. Broke out the IR temp gun, reads between 126 - 134 when taken on the rad tank, hoses, and t stat housing. Fan clutch mysteriously decided to unlock the other day too, but is locked up again.

So, t stat, about 1 year old
Fan clutch, about 8 months old
Both bad already. Doesn't anybody make quality replacement parts anymore?
