I would use schedule 40 pipe from self serve lumber. Super tuff stuff, almost unbendable.

tabs opinion was 100% correct. it is a stronger than stock option that is reasonably priced. you can bend pretty much any tie rod known to man, it just depends on if you are aware of what you are ramming it into or if you are closing your eyes and flooring it. on my last jeep i didnt bend the stock tie rod for quite a while and then i bend 2 tj tie rods and a used grand cherokee tie rod that a friend gave me within a week being a retard. if it were me i would do the grand cherokee tie rod especially since he will be putting a 5.3 in with one tons and creepy crawlers. oh i forgot it is getting sold for an lj after his DUI stuff is all figured out. i cant keep up.....

Well Tab, I guess you've been told by an expert that wheeled Wellesville.

That's right I would need 1.25" .250 wall tube my bad. I appreciate everyone's help I'm leaning toward the ZJ steering because its cheap and readily available. If a deal pops up for a steering kit maybe I'll jump on that

if the OP bent 1/4" wall DOM, i doubt ZJ stuff will hold up.

ive never been to wellesville. but having seen video of the OP in wellesville, again, i highly doubt that ZJ stuff will hold up. also, if he is replacing the RR stuff, he is going to have to get a new drag link along with the tie rod. even durafail parts are going to add up, their prices have risen lately. and MOOG parts are going to be even more pricey. for a few bucks more (if at all) something much better and stronger could be had.

but i guess the idea is to sell it? just throw some JY parts on it. i guarantee that 4 moog TREs (ZJ or not), and the 2 adjusters needed are going to push $200. durafail or similar wont be much less. you can buy 1 ton stuff or heims for that price.

For a mildly built TJ like this, Tab's recommendations are spot on, even if it is locked front and rear on 35's. And ChadCooper is right, any tie rod will bend if it gets crashed into a rock. I bent a 1 1/2 x 3/8 wall DOM twice. Not the same tie rod twice but two different ones.

It amazes me the bashing Tab took when he was offering solid advice.

It wasn't that bad of a bashing. It's one guy who had a very different experience than I did. I don't give a fukc if he agrees with me or not or thinks I wheel "hard" or not. I certainly don't need to prove anything to him. Let's just say it's the kinder, gentler, me.

just my 2 cents that's worth less. but I used the zj tye rod on my tj and found moog brand parts through e-bay for less than half the price of the common parts stores, shipped. if you can wait a few days its worth the saveings

Priced ZJ steering out and its about $200 sounds like I'm better off buying another rugged ridge steering kit or going with another option. Any used kits out there?

Used steering is likely to be ... well... used. Why do you want to install steering parts that could be sloppy from the get go?

It's an expensive hobby but if you want to play, you have to pay. You talk about wanting to run hardcore stuff, then do it right.

I understand they will be used but as long as the TRE's are good and the steering is straight Idc. I'm probably selling it soon anyways. If worse comes to worse I will just buy a new RR kit
