No worries, we will keep updating.

I managed to do some more power washing on the jeep today. I also ordered the race radio tonight so we can talk with the pits. Jesse reserved our hotel, so this is getting real.

How is the oil pan working out? Do a good job maintaining oil pressure at angles? I was looking at Pacific fabs ls oil pan but the one you have looks nearly identical for half the cost.

Seems fine so far, same pan, same manufacturer. I think PAC Fab adds another layer of steel, at least where the emblem is

Very happy. Fit and finish seemed nice when we installed it. From what I read on pirate, this is essentially the same pan as the Pac Fab version, although I think now Pac Fab sells a version with a skid plate welded on (for extra from what I gather). The benefit to us of the Champ Pan was that we could get it through Lane/Allstar Distributor (CHALS1000 Oil pan, CHALS1001 Oil Filter Adapter, CHA750LS1 Pick-up).

As a comparison, JeepM715's buggy runs a firebird pan with no extra baffling, and after a short period of time with the nose up it will start dropping oil pressure. On the same climb with the stock truck pan in this jeep it would hold pressure just fine. In similar climbs in Harlan it was very much like the stock pan. I didn't see the pressure dropping, and I was paying more attention than normal since it was the first time out with the new pan. I didn't watch oil pressure as we came down Little Jagger since I was too busy worrying about flopping forward.

Good to hear.

Mine is a truck motor so in theory i could run the stock pan but i really need every bit of clearance i can get and would feel better with a steel pan. Sounds like this is the way to go.

7 weeks left. Still waiting on the radio. Thanks to Hosejockey we should have 2 new MTRs coming our way as soon as I go and pick them up.

JeepM715 is at PRI in Indiana, hopefully he brings home lots of cool stuff. He ordered up a Artec quart crate so we can more easily take fluids with us.

Big news for Johnson Valley: http://ultra4racing.com/the-inside-l...son-valley-ca/

Outstanding news for JV.
John, I'll be talking to you about any help you may need before you leave. Plus, if you buy me lunch, I'll give you Tab's money I owe you.

Jeep night was tonight. Pulled the engine, trans, and t-case. Trans is headed across town for a check up.

I inspected the wire harness where it the grommet failed and the wires rubbed on the firewall. A few wires have some abrasion marks. My plan is to touch up the bad spots with some liquid electrical tape to make sure the copper is coated, and then I will tape it up and reuse the section of radiator hose that we are using for chaff guard.

We spent a bunch of time looking at making a dash upgrade. On the way to the Harlan ECORS race we picked up a GPS and wanted to mount it in dash, and the location for our intercomm wasn't as good as we thought, and we just got a race radio to be able to talk with the pits, so it was time for a change.

We also spent a little time looking at modifying the rear spare tire mount to make room for tools, fluids, and a spare power steering box. But that will come after the dash project.
If it works like we planned, the gauges will still be in the center so either of us can watch them, We are going to drop the tach since it hasn't worked anyway. The radio and intercomm will be on the driver's side, and the GPS will be on the passenger.

We made a quick template from some scrap masonite and have a rough layout. Next up

All good plans.
Will the spare power steering box include a pitman arm already installed? Seems like it should. I know racing is different but I never used my tach & when it came out, I have never missed it.
You picked up a HAM? You are welcome to borrow one of my hand helds if you want.

Yes, complete with Pitman, no need to carry the puller too.

We already planned on taking one of your radios, lol. Thanks for the offer
