Default Parkerizing

Anyone ever had this done to a firearm? I have an older S&W/Howa 1500 in .22-250 that was handed down to me and unfortunately, it spent quite a few years in a case and the exterior rusted up pretty good. I was able to get quite a bit off with plenty of oil and steel wool, but it took the bluing with it. Just thinking of doing this as an alternative to having it re-blued. Thanks!
