First, hire Captain Ron. Then, buy three row boats. Set the trailer tires inside each boat, and the trailer jack inside the third. Tow the trailer home behind the boat across the lake. Wakeboard behind the trailer just to make sure nothing goes wrong.

this is probley the approach I would take. I doubt they would have a problem with just the trailer.

I'd just do it aand play dumb. If you get stopped you just bought the boat and never had anything that big. And apologize. You would get off easy

Well I know it wasn't 800 miles but it was close to 100. Maybe see how close you can get it home in the water before it's picked up. I'm sure there's a harbor that is closer to your house than driving it on the road the whole way home. Like I said just an idea that doesn't involve you have to tow that giant boat on your own.

Problem is I have a CDL A... Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. If for some reason there is an accident I can't imagine having an un-permitted load would go over well either. We're just trying to keep it legal

Finalize the sale
Have them store it for the winter
As part of the sale they haul the boat to the car ferry dock.
Take ownership
Put it on the the car ferry
Launch boat in ludington Whitehall is just around the corner
Take the trailer home empty.

What we've done is the guy is 'giving' us the trailer. We mailed him paper work from the SOS. He's going to sign the trailer over to us, get the weights ect, and mail it back. The SOS says that we will then be able to license/title it.

Once we have those (next week) we should have an easier time getting permits for WI and MI.

You have obviously never dealt with anything like this in Illinois. They have a nasty reputation. They don't care if you are stupid or ignorant. You will pay.

What's the overall , length and weight of this boat. I have a friend that moves boats for a living. I can ask him if he knows any tricks of the trade on this.

What's the big deal? Anyone who can afford the boat should be able to afford the transportation to take possession of the boat. If you didn't factor that into the purchase price, well............. It kinda comes with the territory.... duh.

It's like me buying my motorhome and then bitching about the $600 per year license plate. You have to pay to play.
