Default Carb woes

1987 Yamaha moto 4

Got this for free, and trying to get it running before Saturday to hit up the dunes.

Been fixing things over the past two weeks. Good compression, has spark. Should be getting fuel... but won't run for more than a few seconds. I'm thinking the bowl floats are set too low? Sucking up all the fuel before it gets a chance to fill again?

Loosened the drain on the bowl and fuel was coming out at a decent rate.

Anybody around here good with mikuni carbs? Come over for beer and/or pizza and help me get her running right?

I did replace the oil, filter, and spark plug.

Gasket was leaking on the carb so I pulled the bowl off and replaced the gasket, while I had it apart I blew everything off with carb cleaner.

Make sure all orifices are free and clear, main jet, pilot jet etc. Check the vent on the fuel tank and make sure it is not obstructed as well as the vent on the carburetor.

x2 you need to pull it all apart and clean it really well. In fact find a place with an ultrasonic cleaner and have them run it through it...makes a world of differance

When I replaced the gasket, the fuel stayed coming out the front hole and dropped down the carb, then I tweaked the floats around to stop that from continuing to happen.

I guess I'll pull it apart again.

Is there a catch to getting the choke out of the carb body? I loosened the nut, but it didn't seem to want to pull out?

That's a problem.

I also would have never fucked with the tang on the floats to stop that fuel.

I would not have fucked with the tang if it didn't get tweaked from putting the bowl back on

Forced the choke out, took me about 10 Damn minutes. Then cleaned everything and put it back together... except the o ring on the choke since it swelled. A little tuning and now she starts on first pull.

Now to just get tires on it and put the plastics back on along with a few small odds and ends, silver on Saturday afternoon.
