one of the biggest miss uses is that people don't format the image properly. the size of the pic makes a huge difference in how well it up loads. I always keep them around 500x375 in size and under 150kb so it up loads. if you have any kind of photo program on your machine then you should see a button that lets you format for the web.
if you need a alternate server I use www.photobucket.com & www.photodump.com both need to have the images under 250kb per when up loading .

Photobucket will resize them automatically.

There is no size limit on a hotlinked picture, but based on the "red X" description you are giving, it sounds like you are copy/pasting the URL from the address bar, which is not necessarily the URL of the picture you are trying to hotlink. Also keep in mind that a hotlinked pic must be hosted somewhere on the web already (as mentioned). You can't hotlink from your computer. Make sure you have the picture you want to link right on the screen, then right-click directly on the picture and select "properties". The URL you see there is the one you want to use for hotlinking.

Roll-Bar Bob attached his pic to his post. I would advise against this habit, as there are size limitations, you have to attach it to every thread you want it to appear in (as opposed to linking it anywhere you want as many times as you want), and GL4x4 has an attachment quota. Once you reach the limit, you'll have to delete previous attachments in order to attach additional files.

Thats not necessarily true for photobucket. A free membership can get you up to 1mb picture uploads. Just click on the "uploading options" and a menu pops up and lets you choose sizes to resize to up to and including 1mb with a free account.

Also see my sig :)

Over break i plan on either a) adding features, b) working on a XJ, c) doing nothing...probably mixture of a) and c) since both dont require me getting out of my comfy chair!
