Though Mieses is a Massachusetts resident, he has never had a valid Massachusetts driverís license for a passenger vehicle and has never applied for a motorcycle license, the Registry of Motor Vehicles said.

Registry records show that Mieses applied for a learnerís permit in 1999 and 2000, but that he never obtained a full license because he failed to pay fines imposed after he was ticketed for speeding in Lawrence in 1999. His last contact with the Registry was in 2001, when he obtained an identification card, registry records show.

Since 1999, he has been ticketed by police 16 times, in Lawrence, Methuen, Roxbury, Andover, and New Hampshire, according to registry records.

In June, the Registry notified the National Driver Register that Mieses was a habitual traffic offender whose right to drive in Massachusetts was revoked until 2017, records show.

This. If it's a life or death situation, I've never understood how a bike can stop a moving vehicle if the driver doesn't care who he knocks over.

Not to start another debate here, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a news blurb the other day where one of the anchors said something along the lines of, "Well this certainly supports an argument for the benefits of concealed carry". He was of course talking about the Range Rover driver being able to defend himself.....I imagine the legality of being able to carry a gun would not change whether or not the biker "thugs" did it.

Agreed! I would hope in that situation drawing on the guy at the window would get him gone and all his coward buddies would follow. If not that then I would suspect dropping him would back the rest off. If that doesn't do it, then keep shooting till they have to beat you to death with your empty gun.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to sound like a gun-toting hardass. That would be the last ditch effort when all other options(including avoiding the situation in the first place, running away, getting to the authorities, etc.) were exhausted.

The problem with that is I would bet at least half of those bikers were carrying (legally or illegally) and if you pulled your gun you'd quickly have 20 pointed at your face....

Potentially. At the point of them trying to forcefully remove me from the vehicle that's a risk I'd be willing to take, it's life or death at that point.

It is life or death no argument, it's hard to say what I would or would not have done. I don't think I would pull a gun though, I think my fight or flight instincts would have told me to flee.

Unless we are talkinga bout after he fled and they were pulling him out of the car, then yes, I think at that point your only option if you were carrying was to hope that pulling your gun was enough to deter any further action from anyone else.

I know I would be hitting the gas long before pulling my piece - until I had no place to go at the end.

Like I said earlier, the gun would be a last ditch effort. First, try to avoid the situation entirely(ie, pull to the right and let the idiots pass). Second, try and get the fukk out of there before it gets worse. Third, try to get the authorities involved to save your sorry ass. Fourth, try again to get the fukk out of there. Fifth, whatever happens in the meantime. Sixth, pull the gun in hopes of deterring them. Seventh(assuming sixth didn't work), shoot as many of them in the chest/face as necessary to get them to stop attacking, or until you're out of ammo and being beaten to death.

you are also pulling on people who are not know to aim and would miss you and hit your wife and kid in the truck. I would have gave my gun to the wife and said don't shoot till they come after you.

regarding the ^^^.....can you imagine the mess if a gun was pulled because it is now being revealed that a couple of the riders, including one of the guys that beat on the rover, were UNDERCOVER COPS.

idea for a new reality tv show: cops gone wild

Were they actually undercover? Early on I heard off duty. Big difference there. Still not excusable, but still very different.
