I have a bad shoulder. I haven't shot my compound since January due to something screwed up with my rotator cuff.

This doesn't change the fact that a crossbow isn't a bow. The original poster was asking about a compound bow.

It was crack at his commit about being a shitty shot. That is why I posted a crossbow to poke fun.

I heard nobody in michigan hunts with a bow in October anymore, they all use cross-bows. I also heard they are all going to be wearing pink camo soon too. It's all the latest fad.

A lot of my friends have made the switch but I can't bring myself to do it. I would probably shoot more deer if I did though

Two times in my life I have spent the long dollar on a bow. I am disappointed that you walk out the door with a thousand dollars invested and that value drops to 400 dollars in one second.

Buy a used bow off craigslist or off the local paper and let some other fool take the big hit.

With that being said you can not be to picky and you need to look at what is available.

When you go to look at one spend some time on the internet looking at reviews of the specific type you are going to look at, you will get a bunch of circumspect bull shit of course, similar to asking an open ended question like this on GL 4x4

A friend has a newer Quest....it's nice but not great.....it's kinda loud and imo doesn't draw very smooth.

I personally like the pursuer xp from Cabelas it is resonably priced and built by parker bows. It has 70# pull with 80% let off. It reads out 308 fps on my chronograph.

I shoot an older Matthews Q2, can't justify what a new bow costs vs. what more it would do than my bow. Maybe when this one breaks I will buy a newer one.

A bunch of my friends use "cheaters" but I still enjoy the challenge of bowhunting.

I've hunted OH - where crossbows have been legal for anyone - and about a third of the people I see are using them.

They aren't magical. The FPS on them is no better than a modern compound bow and the range is likewise comparable - maybe another 5-10 usable yards out of a crossbow.

The only real advantage is comparability to a gun (i.e. you don't have to develop a new skill) and less motion in the stand.
