Default 1972 Yamaha R5 (like RD350) Project Bike

This is a 72 R5, 350cc. It is a project bike. It is non-running, but has potential. The previous owner had it running/riding, but let it sit in the garage due to a charging issue. The regulator/rectifier will most likely need to be replaced. The tank is empty and has slight oxidation, but nothing a treatment of vinegar won't cure. The throttle won't turn, so I'm thinking the carburetor butterflies are seized and need a good soak. It should take pretty basic stuff to get it running. The r5 is very similar to the Rd350, the main difference is the rd uses Reed valves. The R5 is a bit more rare, but shares many parts with RDs. I think this bike would make a great start for a restoration since its mostly all there. It is missing the airbox, but it has pod filters on the carbs. I checked eBay and an airbox can be had for around 30$. I also have a clean MI title.

600$ obo

I know. My dad's neighbor has an RD350 and those things are stupid fast. Apparently the RD is the "tamer" of the two and has better street manners. :)

nope. sorry. Although, you seem to have things just fall into your lap, why don't you pray for a decent condition, running, Honda Trail 110. I'll trade you for that.

Feel free to finish the head gasket job and then come buy it. :)

It's probably not going anywhere fast. Most people aren't that interested in this type of bike, but for the people that are, I think that it's a pretty good starting point and a reasonable asking price.

Better, less wet, pics:

Does it scream the way the RD's did or does it sound different?

I haven't run it, yet. I bought it as a winter project, but prefer working on newer stuff, so I thought I'd see if I could sell it before winter and pick up something else.

Here's one on youtube:

Although it would be even sweeter with expansion chambers

Looks even better in the sunlight/not wet! I'll keep my eye out for a trail 110. Or maybe I'll try and come up with 600 bucks. :D I really like how this bike looks!
