Get an antenna with a telescoping tip(add senseless joke here). It will allow you to tune it very easily. No cutting the whip to length or messing around with spacers with the fiberglass ones.

I have been using a Predator 10k for years and don't plan on switching. It is hooked to a Galaxy 98 which has been tweaked.

I bought both items off ebay $190 for the radio $40 for the antenna and $60 for a tweak and tune. So right around $400 all said and done after shipping.

I have a 29 classic and 102" whip that I used with my yj years ago. It is a good cheap "trail" setup for around $100 and good for around 10-12 flat miles. You can get the 1/2 the range running a pair of those $60 walkies from walmart without a antenna grabbing branches.

The something I noticed right away with the predator is that your wattage rarely spikes. Using a whip the wattage is all over the place.

If you have your CB tweaked most places will go out and tune it for free to a bit more(if they are busy).
