I did a lot of research last night on this for you. I have concluded you should get an alligator. They are fun to take for runs (deceivingly fast). They will play fetch with you if you use meat. I do not believe they shed. I think they would be good for home protection as well. You can make a swamp in the yard for when you do not want it in the house. It would probably keep stray animals out of your yard.

It got yelled at one time for nipping at ankles when the kids were playing. After that it would not play unless it had something in his mouth. If he couldn't find a toy or a stick he would grab a blade of grass and hold it in his mouth. My parents had to have him put down in 1998 at 14 years old. I still miss that dog and I'm sure I always will. We had two other border collies throughout my life and they were both worthless.....

just wanted to post this video somewhere, and thought of this thread...
but really I think a pot belly pig would be more fitting for you, I hear they are very fast, and can take the cold pretty well.

good luck with your search/decision,

Didn't have time/energy to read this whole thread, but I got to the point where Weimaraners were suggested.

In my experience, weimaraners can develop a bit of a funk if you don't bathe them.

Other than that, probably a great dog for your energy level. They do tend to be destructive if you don't let them spend their energy.

Maybe it's been said it vetoed but I would recommended a Doberman. We love ours. They need attention and plenty of running or the out of control. They need good training but are a loyal loving dog when handlers correctly.
