Default Nitrogen Shock tuning help (bilstein 7100)

I bought these in 14" travel for my YJ SOA. Valving is 255/70 front, rears 275/78

In June I took it to Silver lake and they worked AMAZING! Really great ride. The tires just hugged the terrain.

I just got back from silver lake.....and the ride was HORRIBLE! I'm sure no shocks would of been better. What could cause this?

How do you know if you need to change the rebound or compressoin discs? Could nitrogen have leaked out causing this big change?

Seemed stiff. But I don't know the difference between to stiff or to soft really. I know if i push down on the jeep, it hardly moves.

when I go over the ruts in the dunes, it feels like your teeth are going to fall out. Going up the hills full throttle, if you do not hold the wheel the jeep will actually get away from you. NEVER had this happen.

Not sure if that tells its to soft or to stiff.....It did sound like every time you hit a bump it would thud. I took the bump stops out in the front and you could still hear it. Not sure if that tells you anything.

I run RE 1.5" SOA springs and shackle reversal.

Front has a winch, v8 engine, full cage, DIY 15" beadlocks, 39.5 Iroks.

Rear has bumper.

I did not change anything from June till this trip. Could a loss in Nitrogen pressure cause this big of an issue?

unfortuanly I let some air out with no gauge to see if i could make a drastic change......which I could not. So can't tell where the pressure was set to start with.

Took the shocks off... they do not extend at all. So I'm thinking I was just low on nitrogen as they felt the same before and after I bled some out. Why would I loose that much in just 4 months????? Would going from hot june to cool Sept cause this? I thought Nitrogen wasn't weather affected?

Not true, the reason it's used in airplane tires and other important things is that it's 100% pure, unlike air that is a mixture of lots of things, the pressure vs. temp is a known curve, and it's abundantly available.

I would guess you have a leak. That sounds more drastic than weather changes.

Makes sense....

A leak in all 4 shocks? I do not run remote reservoirs. Maybe the shrader valve isn't seated all the way. Guess ill go from there and get them refilled and monitor the pressure

Also if you let some out without a gauge then you probably let out way too much. There is a lot less nitrogen in a shock than one would think. At least in a coil over there is about 2-4 seconds of air. Without having a way to control it there isn't a real good way way to release or fill accurately.

Oh that I know. I was just doing that last day at silver lake to see if I could make a drastic change. It did nothing and rode the same. So to mee it says not enough n2. Now, what should i fill them to ? 180-220 I think is spec.
