460 strength?

I picked up my new motor today for my 88 f250 Im goin to be rebuilding this winter. I got a complete and bone stock 89 7.5 out of a wrecked f350. I will be pulling it apart for a freshening and Im doing some other stuff as well. The short version is it will be getting a stock rebuild from the intake down but Im adding 52lb injectors, custom sheet metal upper intake with a single blade 90mm TB,Megasquirt stand alone ecm and a BW S475 75mm turbo. I want to run about 8psi since that should be an honest 100+ ftlb gain.

My question is will the stock cast pistons take a small beating or am I just playin with fire by throwing some boost at them? Anybody lean on a stock shortblock hard around here? Nitrous? Blowers?

Personally I would replace the pistons and rods. The crank and block will handle substantially more than what you plan to do.

It's only a Ford motor, see what it can handle

I'd be putting some forged pistons in it. I ran Probes and have had no issues so far.....
Some upgraded rods wouldn't be a bad idea while you're in there too. You can find a lot of good condition used sets this time of year. PM me if you need some leads on either.

Thanks for the offer. If I do replace internals it will be with new parts not used tho. This isnt a budget motor build,if the stock parts wont handle another 100-150 HP/torque I will buy parts that will. I guess Im just tryin to see if anyone has found the limits of the stock bottom end or is still pushing one hard and having good luck on cast pistons.

I have been a 5.0 and 2.3t guy my whole life so this will be my first time playin with a 385 motor.

Can't answer your question, but sounds like a cool project. Post up some pictures when you're doing it!

The stock bottom end will hold all your looking to do. Back when I was a young kid wanting to go fast I had a notch back mustang with a 460. I had a good set of heads for the day. A stock bottom end and a shit load of nitrous. I was running a 500hp Fogger system. I then decided I wanted more so I added a plate system with another 175hp shot. That's when I started having issues. One time the crank came out of the engine pulled all the webbing apart. I assure you your stock crank and rods will handle another 150hp. I never bought rods And I reused my pistons most of the time. Just replace the one the had a meltdown.
