Washington D.C./Arlington Hotels etc

Never been there and looks like I just might be headed there for a few days in Oct. Anybody have any recommendations on places to stay? Not looking to break they bank at the Carlton Ritz but still want something affordable and not in the slums if possible. Just going to vacation and site see so closer to all the tourist stuff the better.

Hotel Washington is very nice and classy, next to the White House, and wasn't too bad off season.

Wherever you go make sure it is within walking distance to a Metrorail station. You do not want to do any driving there. Take good walking shoes. Also limit liquids, public restrooms are few and far.

When I go I usually stay in Bethesda, MD or Arlington or Alexandria, VA as the rates will usually be about $25 - $100 a night cheaper for comparable hotels and you can still have very quick access to the Metro lines.

FYI, if you are headed down sometime around October 24 through the 29th, that is the time of the Marine Corps Marathon and many of the cleaner places in Arlington and DC book pretty far in advance (or raise their rates accordingly).
