Car trailer question.

What is this for?

The switch is wired into the trailer plug.

It does not turn any lights on or off, could it be for the brakes?

I have never had a trailer with electric brakes before only serge brakes.

Any ideas would be great because I don't know if its on or off what it's supposed to be.

Thanks

trace the wire back. that's some kind of homebrew shit right there. Its a home wall plug box with a automotive non waterproof switch on it?

Ok done this is what I found. The wire in the pig tail is yellow goes to the switch after the switch it is purple and goes to the pos side on the winch. The winch works with or with out the switch on.

Car trailer question.

So nothing I do gets power to it and there is a "+" pole on the 7 pin that is not hot. Maybe it's a positive for something. Now going to check the truck and see why that pole is dead. Just a thought could it be to charge the batt for the winch? That would be very nice if it did.

Just unscrew the plate, you might find the switch isn't even connected, looks older than heck who knows what may have been connected to it in the past.

even if you do find out what it does, I would rip it out and start over.
