Default Cam selection

building a pretty healthy 406 for my mud truck, any suggestions on camshaft selection criteria?? as far as truck cams/race cams/etc... should it be like a circle track grind? maintaining pretty high rpm instead of a "rpm range"... little input from some veterans would be appreciated! thanks, david

Needs to be matched with other components. Compression ratio, intake, transmission, axle ratio, ect.

I know that.. lol. just curious if anyone had experience with any cam selections being better than others for mud trucks..

I would play around with Comp Cams' Cam Quest program. It will give a paper idea of what combination will produce what results.

best to talk to comp cams or crane and ask them. and a circle track cam would suck they don't make low end power. converter specs will also have a huge effect on cam choice

Comp Cams does have some grinds they claim are for Mud Trucks, might want to look at that. General rule of thumb, mudding is acting more like a Bracket Racer than a Circle Track racer - you should be looking at Drag Race cams, exact cam will depend on weight, gearing, tire size and compression.

Nothing really different, still want the most ave. HP over the intended RPM range.
