If he just got it, he's going to have a hard time giving it up... I have a hard time even letting the wife drive it

please take the time to give us some first hand feed back on actual fuel consumption, charge time, and if you could info on your daily travel distance, and increased KW usage on your electric bill from your historical usage.

From time I left dealer last week..
Total Miles- 585.9
Actual Fuel Consumption First week- 7.3 Gallons
= 77+ mpg

Wife took it to Mt. Pleasant over the weekend for a concert which was obviously out of the electric range. 180 miles on 4.3 gallons I think it was.

Charge time..

First few days were all on gas because my garage 110 line wasn't grounded and I couldn't charge the damn thing..... until I ran a dedicated line Friday night.

There are two settings for the 110 charger 8amp and 12 amp. The 8 amp is a joke and takes about 14 hours to do a full charge.

Today (between work, and driving to run errands/ get ice cream with the wife) I did 56 all electric miles (had a free boost because I used a charger on lunch) and ran out when I was about 1/8th mile from my door. So I had a completely dead battery. This was at approx 8pm and I will have a full charge at 6:15 am using the 12A option.

I'll let you know how much my electric bill goes up, but I am working with consumers (They have an electric vehicle program) to get a different meter installed that will give me much better rates based on peak and off peak usage. There is also a $2500 incentive program for installing a level 2 charger (240V) that will charge in 4 hours and you can hit all off peak charging at .045 per kWh vs the 9-22 cents per kWh.

I hope to get my cost per electric mile down to about a penny or two tops.

This is the one the guy at work has:

I like the color, most I see are white or silver.
He's getting the 240 volt charger installed as well.

Nice! I like that color quite a bit but white and black are always my favorites.

180 miles on 4.3 gallons equals 41.86 MPG ???

I am not picking on you, I really appreciate the technology, however I would like to understand the "actual cost"

If you don't mind, what is the sale cost of the car. I am comparing it to a Cruz.

Chevy Cruz at 31 +- MPG 12 cents per mile and Volt at 41.86 +- MPG .0895 cents per mile from your experience above

10.86 MPG difference at current gas price 3.75 a gallon .0304 cents per mile difference.

20,975 cost difference divided by .0304 cents equals 689,967 miles payback, not considering electrical charging cost, takes, putting in a plug in and charge station.

How do you see the pay back?

No problem at all..... I didn't buy it.

Lease rates were less than I could lease or buy a Prius or curse for. My lifetime mpg just hit 80mpg, and the more electric only miles I drive the more that goes up. I can literally drive to work for pennies per week.

I agree that the numbered dont work if you drop 40k on one, that's why I didn't. I do t plan to buy out the lease either. Technology is getting better and the next gen will have an ev range of north of 50 and a Power plant that gets 50mpg when not in ev mode.

I would be interested in an updated pic and if charging time or miles per charge stayed the same.

The "this charge" screen really only captures a day of driving but it does give you a true lifetime average.

Electric miles has been consistently at 44-46 per charge but there have been times I have been projected at 50 (have driven 20-21 but still have projected 30 left) it all depends on driving style and how much you run the A/C or heat (all uses the battery power).

My lifetime mpg has dropped to 54.6 after an 800 mile road trip to Louisville with a bike rack on the back.... read "Parachute". That trip I only averaged 33 mpg while on gas which was a bit disappointing, but I did do 75MPH the entire way with a rack and a fully loaded down car.

Charge time remains the same, about 4-5 miles of range per hour of charge and the charge estimates about 30 minutes longer than actual. Last night for example I was going to have a full charge at 2:15 am but I got a text it was complete at 1:45. Yes, the car sends me text messages.

I was really hoping to get 40MPG highway, so the 33 isn't something I'm thrilled about, but I have burned almost no gas during my daily commute/driving since I've got the car and the dedicated line run.

Still working on getting my charge station put in on consumers dime. I'll update if that ever happens.

Do you have any electric consumption numbers yet? Iirc (on paper) charging the car consumes about the same amount of juice as the average US household uses in a day. Just wondering if that is on target or not.

The Volt would be on my list to seriously consider leasing if we were in need of another commuter car. Hope it gives you many trouble free miles
