I cant believe you are giving up on the wood burner. Dana was rite. BTW, it sounds to me like between the $ spent on the wood burner and now the $ you are about to spend on Geothermal, you will be back in black by the time you are 70. Just fire up the furnace and enjoy.

KickStain beat me to it.

Is there a way of converting the wood burner to an auto feeder, pellet type system? If the goal is to save money then it may be time to do some math.

Ugh, why would he do that? He could just convert it into a steam pressured electrical generator to work hand in hand with his geothermal system, he'll heat his house with water and run his geothermal and lights off the generator he can convert the boiler into and then be totally off the grid forever mostly not at all because he'll still have face space and gl4x4

So a couple of things I've learned in this thread. None of you can afford a system like this, none of you that has responded in this thread knows what the fukc you are talking about. Everyone thinks they know better. Mr green thinks I'm rong about everything not Dana. I've run my boiler for five yrs not three. I planned on dumping the burner after ten yrs, so I made half my goal and I'm okay with that

cough cough bullshit. I helped you run your pipe from your basement to your garage. That did not happen during the 07-08 winter.

Maybe you should just take some of the big $ you got and just burn it in the wood burner instead of in the Geothermal unit. BTW, putting wood in the burner is a good excuse for getting away from the crying babies.

I got quotes from 15,500 to 21,500. getting a closed loop put in next week for 16,000; along with a hot water preheater, new hot water heater, and a built in humidifer. I know people that have open loop systems and love them. I dont have air now and my propane furnace is over 20 years old. By the time you get a system large enough for your heating needs, cooling is more than ample, plus I don't have an outside eyesore unit for air.

I did not meet you until the winter of 07-08, you did not have an outdoor wood boiler when I met you. You got it the following winter.

Posted August 2008. Meaning you did not use your heater until the 08-09 Season, you have heated for 4 seasons, not 5. This would be your 5th.

The house I bought in 06 already had geo, about 3500 sft combined main floor and finished basement. We shell out about $350/mo in the winter and keep the temp at 70 pretty much all year long. If I ever built a new house, I would not even consider being without it. There's something to be said about walking into your house in July when it's 90+ outside and having icicles hanging from your nose shortly after because it's so cold inside with less than 30% humidity.

This!

don't ever underestimate the value of having a valid excuse to "escape" for awhile
