Here we go, Kerry gives Assad one week to hand over all chemical weapons or face war.

Looks like price has been negotiated and payment received.

While I agree something should be done to whatever force used chemical weapons, it should be a U.N. venture, not strictly U.S.

I tried to find some data on all the deaths the Syrian war has caused. From what I can find, it is generally accepted that 100,000 people have been killed during the conflict. Of those, about 10% were women and children.

In the chemical attack alone that killed around 1450, there were 436 child deaths. The reason chemical weapons are denounced is exactly what the above statistic shows. Traditional arms can be more precise in hitting the intended targets IF they are used with that intention.

I hate the fact that if we retaliate against Asad, we are helping Al Queda and I am having a hard time getting past that but I think something needs to be done, just not by us. Let the Mid East U.N. nations deal with this shit.

Based on your research, how sound is the evidence that it is in fact the Syrian government and not the terrorists that discharged the chemical weapons?

Yes this is still a gray area. A thorough investigation has to be done to determine the source of the chemical weapons. From what I have read, which is far from a conclusion, sarin gas is easy to make but the delivery is more complicated and the rebels may not posses the equipment for such an attack. This should not be a knee-jerk reaction but has to have concrete evidence behind it.

Hopefully this is a step that will give Obie an excuse to back down.

http://news.yahoo.com/syria-says-acc...114743241.html

MOSCOW (AP) — Syria says it has accepted Russia's proposal to place its chemical weapons under international control for subsequent dismantling.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said Tuesday after meeting with Russian parliament speaker that his government quickly agreed to the Russian initiative to "derail the U.S. aggression."

Meanwhile, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia is now working with Syria to prepare a detailed plan of action, which will be presented shortly.

Lavrov said that Russia will then be ready to finalize the plan together with U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

President Barack Obama said Monday the Russian proposal could be "potentially a significant breakthrough," but he remained skeptical that Syria would follow through.

Won't it be interesting if there are still chemical weapon attacks after the Syrian government has removed all their weapons (ie the terrorist rebels are really responsible).

This only makes the Obie supporters think he did the right thing and all the outrage that the citizens had was unfounded and they should have trusted their fearless leader.

He stood up and made claims towards Syria and they were scared and made a deal to avoid conflict with the US.

Obie is so awesome.

It makes me wonder if the US and Russia planned this out as a "good cop bad cop" type of thing.
