Default Colt M1911 - Rail Adapters

I really want to mount a flashlight/laser sight on my 1911; the only problem is mine did not come with a factory mount. I don't believe any of them did. It is a government model series 80. I do not want to drill it or anything like that. I found a couple "bolt" on adapters for accessories:

http://www.gear4ops.com/product-deta...il-mount1.aspx

http://www.opticsplanet.com/surefire-mount-mr07.html

I not sure yet if I like them. Both mounts don't seem like they would be very solid. Has anyone used one of those or a similar adapter? Any other suggestions as to what to get?

I probably could and be done with it, but I don't want to get rid of my current 1911. It was my Dad's, sentimental stuff.

Just curious if anyone on here has used any of those adapters and if they work well

Why would you put a light/laser on it?

Go with a XDm, HK, M&P or Glock for that kind of work.

On the other hand... I have heard great things about the Surefire mounts and I bought a mount from InSight for my Beretta M9 that I'm very happy with.

No problem with owning two 1911s.

Surefire makes great stuff, so I would find it hard to believe their mount would be shoddy.

I agree, I will probably buy another 1911 at some point, but I like my current one just fine and it has a lot of sentimental value for me. I know their products are pretty good, but i've never used one of those type of mounts. I was just curious if they work well or not

I don't want another pistol; I like the one I have; I want to get a mount for a light/laser for it.

I suppose the only way to find out is to buy one and test it lol

I've never had the desire to put any accessories on a 1911. Let us know what works.

Crimson trace laser grips.

My kimber came with them, no further need for addons for a 1911.

If I was to add a rail I would install the drill and tap style over that type. If at a later time you decide to remove the rail just plug the holes.
I really like the lines of a 1911 pistol and that big bracket thing really looks odd.

The 1911s that i've seen with the drilled and tapped mounts all look really good; I really liked the look of them with the light/laser sight and i've always wanted one on my pistol. I was looking at the no drill mounts because I really didn't want to drill mine. No real reason to put one on other than I would like one.

They also make solder on rails but that would require refinishing the frame. I would think the gun without light would fit most holsters still ?
This I found on google.
