Default Engine shop around Fenton Howell area

I'm thinking about taking a engine I got a few months back and having it gone thru to make sure it's good to go ! Anyone you guys would recommend around the Fenton area?

I've some good and some very bad stuff about Fenton Machine Shop. Based on what I've heard I wouldn't risk it.

I've heard very good things about a machine shop in or near downtown Howell, not sure the name of it though. Maybe ask Joe, one of his buddies who builds a lot of Ford motors swears by them.

Basically what I've heard is his machine work is good but if he assembles an engine you can expect it to grenade fairly quickly.

Dont trust the guy you got the motor from? I wouldn't either, haha.

Fire it up and watch the oil pressure, if its good then run it.

That isn't always a sure fire way to know you have a good engine. I bought a used 454 a long time ago. When i put it in a test stand and ran it it had a horrible knock from the lower end, but yielded 65 psi cold oil pressure. I removed the oil pan and began taking bearing caps off. The #3 main bearing was down to copper and both bearing halves were loose in the main cap. The #7 rod bearing was also down to copper and the crank was scored heavily. So a word of caution when buying used engines good oil pressure does not always indicate a good engine. I later determined the 454 was overheated severely which caused expansion of the #3 main journal.

His machine work is shit. He couldn't even rebuild a CV joint when I was in a time crunch.

His customer service is also pure shit and he has no respect for people's wives/girlfriends. He's a complete dick and If I was 10 years younger I would have thrown my driveshaft through his front window by now, picked it up again, found him in the shop and beaten the fukc out of him with it.

Huh, that sounds like a bad situation. I've never dealt with them personally. That's why I said "What I've heard".

Short version goes like this.

I'm heading out of town for work, snow is coming and I want fiance to have 4wd truck as an option while I am gone. Take driveshaft off, send parts and driveshaft with fiance to machine shop to have installed while I'm at work. install driveshaft, it blows up in the first 15 miles. take driveshaft off, fiance takes it back to machine shop, says I don't do warranties and shoves it (she said threw) across the counter so she has to catch it getting grease all over her clothes.

I was at work, she had free time, or I would have taken it up myself. It's been a few years but I do recall a phone call up to him where he basically told me to fukc off and hung up on me.

I decided it not best to go up there and voice my displeasure to him in person and just moved on from that situation.

Dexter Manufacturing in Chelsea does some really nice work for a reasonable price. I know it is not Fenton but close to your place of employment. I know they are getting close to a location change so best to call and ask what the situation is.
