Default Demolition Derby

So who has done one? I just picked up a 92 bonneville (yes I know not a great idea for a derby car) and was pondering having some fun before I take it down and scrap it. Seems like a lot of work to get the car ready.

Not sure if they will let you use fwd. First hit to a front wheel and you are done, and yes, a lot of work.

Off road derby is full of smaller FWD cars.

There's a bump and run race at the st joe county fair http://www.centrevillefair.info/?page_id=2224 rules say you can run a 6cyl fwd car. Or you can sell me the car and I'll do it.

I use to run demo derbys all the time. You just need to find out if the have a FWD class some times called the metric class. Over here on the west side of the state a lot of the fairs run full size classes and metric classes.

It's not to hard to set the car up as long as you know what you have to do. That's why you need to pic a derby you want to do then go get the rules for said derby. I set my cars up in a weekend.

I'm also hearing them on the radio run adds for the Hudsonville Fair and the have what they are calling a weld class. Not sure what that is but I'm sure you could find an event where you will have fun.

$500. Scrap it for $300. It has 80% good tread tires and aluminum rims. Figure thats $200. 3800 gm so you know it's a runner

edit: I may put a hitch on it and run the truck pulls with it

Check out unique-motor-sports.com, put the slashes in there. They have shows in your area, and rules to decide what you want to build. I suggest bump and run, the cars last a long time.

Probably half the cars in the derby up here are FWD.

Your hometown just started a fwd at the fair, it seems they're gaining popularity.

They have to, the rwd car count is way down due to availability. Cash for clunkers and $300.00 a ton scrap prices last summer ruined it.

It was on a down turn long before cash for clunkers and scrap prices. The days of the $100-200 beater have been gone for years now unless you get lucky and you stumble across someone that just has to have it gone now.

I got out of it when I had to pay $350 for my last car. It was just not worth it to me because it was to hard to brake even after the event.

Rule of thumb now seems to be 'if it moves under it's own power, it's worth $500'.

I haven't been to a demo derby in years, surprised to hear they still exist.

(Liability, etc)
