I run 5.13's on 40's with my v6... I have zero complaints.

A terra low kit makes way more sense then a regear. You may want to upgrade the pinion on the 44 and go with 1410 joints depending on your level of self control.

I know right now it is just a trail rig. But by going with a low kit you still maintain streetablity if you ever want to head to a different location without killing your engine rev wise. The terra low kit will be considerably cheaper and will beef up that 20 in the process while giving you a lower ratio then you will ever get by just a regear.

So are you saying stay with 4.10+terra low kit? Will I be able to run 40's? I am just worried about being able to bring up the rpms in 2wd and 4hi. I see what you mean about being able to keep it mobile enough to take it down the street and I like that idea. I'm just trying to figure out what I need so I can get stuff coming. I talked with Tom woods on my drive shafts but before I order I want to have my tire size, gearing and stuff figured out.

This is my first complete build and there is so many ways to go its crazy.

I disagree on the tera low kit and leaving your axles alone.. Your streetability will suck in high range. Many of the guys (like Tab or Eric99tj) are running BOTH a lower ratio t-case AND lower gears. Plus it's harder on your driveshaft joints.

4ds 5.38 np205 c6 and stock v8 I get around in 2hi pretty decent and 4lo works real well. 4hi on obstacles leaves a little to be desired.

I'll do some looking on the terra low kit. Does that only effect low range? And I guess I'll be looking for a set of 5.13 gears.

I didn't read all of this, but those 345's are torquey SOB's. if the motor is built well you might have less problems than you think, except for the whole floating valve thing. my buddy has a hard time revving past 5 grand with his 345.

If it's any consolation, I was running 35's on 3.23 gearing, now I'm on 37's with a 3.73 gearing (and transfer case doubler). I haven't had any street time on it yet though.

edit:

I didn't realize he already posted on this

Do you have a manual or automatic transmission?

Here is the tera low kit: http://www.amazon.com/Advance-Adapte...na+20+tera+low

It's for manual trans only, but I think they make one for autos. It's a different input spline.
Yes, it only affects low range.

Here's a good gear ratio calculator that lets you compare 2 setups side by side:
http://grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

I'm running 35's with 3.54's on my Scout with a manual trans. That's pretty good for the street, but I would like more gearing in low range. Not that it stops me, I just have to slip the clutch more and use more skinny pedal. Any more gearing and I would run out of spare axle shafts quick. Yes it is an auto trans.

I just got a quote from Tom Woods on my shafts.

Front Super-Flex - $349.00
Rear Double Cardan CV - $379
Out-Put Yoke - $60.00
Packing & Processing $10.00

I think I am going to skip the Terra Low Kit until I see what this rig can do. I will be focusing my money on my axles and drive line for the most part, in this order.

1 Drive Shafts
2 Axle Ratio
3 14b Shave kit
4 Steering
5 Tires
6 T-case Ratio

How much lift do you have? I have 8" if lift and do not need a double card an in the rear. You can save some money there.

Actually I don't know. I put a 3/4 ton 14b in the rear. Not sure if they are stock springs. Don't know the stock measurments.

there is a lot better ways to do the driveshafts then just calling tom woods. build your own using northerndrivetrain, just order the parts and weld them or give some local shops a call..
