Default Any VW guys here? Mainly TDI related.

Bought an 01 TDI from my dad, pretty sure it needs an injection pump. It was sucking air through the clear fuel lines for a bit but its back to normal now. Did the timing belt and everything recently.

Began to notice the engine was getting rather loud, and a stethoscope confirms that the loud tapping is coming from the injection pump.

Can anyone tell me if this sounds bad or is it normal?

Do you have Vag-com? Or know anyone that does? http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/

You could check injection quantity to make sure it's within spec and verify timing. After doing the timing belt this should have been done anyway...you might already know. It does seem a bit loud personally.

Might try posting on forums.tdiclub.com and get their opinion. I have a 98 Jetta with an AHU TDI but the motor is slightly different than your ALH

As already mentioned post up over here http://www.tdiclub.com/. I had a TDI this website has a lot of great information. When i had a problem I couldn't figure out myself I used this mechanic he is a TDI expert. Very nice a guy to talk to. I'm sure if you called him he would be willing to point you in the right direction.
