The Big Manistee downstream from Hodenpyl at Mesick is fast. Halfway down to Red Bridge it gets really slow though. Just did it last weekend in a canoe and the volume of water in some of the holes is simply staggering, made me way more nervous about dumping than the Pine ever has. Even though the water was low there were some pretty fun rapids and fast sweepers. It could be pretty intense on a high-volume day.
I really want to get to the Sturgeon River near Wolverine with a canoe sometime soon.

Really? I love the view by the water fall, have you gone up there? My cousins friend has this neat tablet that takes panoramic pics it would be cool up there for fall color. I never felt it was worse( better) than the Pine. But I do the unpopular sections of the Pine more than Dobson to low bridge. 5 mile, Skookum Silver Creek, Elms Flats.
