Default Possible new tow rig

I'm going to look at a couple trucks today, my old 98" 1500 w/ 238,219 is getting tired. I've found a pair of trucks one is a 99" 1500 w/ the 5.3 and 151k on it. The other is a 02" 2500HD w/ 6.0 and unknown milage. I want to ba able to haul my K5 to local and far away mud runs and bogs. Is a 5.3 gonna be able to haul my K5 w/ BBC, tons, 38.5 monster mudders. I've lightened it up by removing 80% of the hard top, doors, and soon to be tailgate. Or should i just look @ the 2500HD. There's a $2000 difference between both trucks.

Time to get a real truck bud. I wouldn't even consider the half ton. Your pulling a 3/4 ton mud truck essentially and gonna do it with a half ton?

If you had a little xj or something maybe get the half ton. But you don't have small rig

I also just went thru this same situation. Ended up going with the half ton for gas milage reasons over the 6.0. When towing i definetly wish i had the 6.0 and i only tow a wrangler. But i did drive my truck to detroit a few weeks ago and got 19 mpg with it.

The higher the weight rating, the happier you'll be towing. That truck is most likely too heavy (w/ trailer) for most 1/2 tons, save some of the newest ones probably.

Sure, you can tow it with the half ton, but she won't like it if you do it on a regular basis.

If you get a 6.0, get it tuned for 91/93 octane. Well worth the money from all the research i did and everyone i know that has done it.

I'd say my K5 weighs about 5,000 or so.

Kurt, You're going to hate the 2500/6.0 combo. A kid I graduated with towed town to twisted for dog party, and had his truck behind it. Going up the Elmira hill it was screaming, and i doubt if it dropped below 3-3500 rpms the entire time. Find a cheap diesel. You'll enjoy it much more, and then Garrett can brag about his dad having one too!
