from my current HR contact, my current employer commonly requests and has notaries verify authenticity of the documents and signature on the form (which I did not sign in 2007) as well as affix copies of same in other areas of the country for "at home employees" - so for them too, the fact that a notary would not sign off on them, it was at least not "business as usual" for their "at-home" work force.

despite all of that, it's still apparently 'new' to the folks at fenton town hall based on their reaction.

this was a fun way to spend lunch, back to the other home office.
Yes, but in your first post you claimed it to be new, which it isn't.

it was in "quotes" that's like putting an asterisk on something for most internet forum eFights. as an experienced forum argu-er I would have expected you to have used the same sometime in the past.

well its not new and technically it should not be *"new"* (enough forum etiquette for you?) to you as in some shape or form you have provided the information for the document for each employer you have had.

People who reject the belief that I9 forms exist tend to be smarter than those who believe.

I fill out a few of those forms every year and have never showed anyone my DL or SS card. I never carry my SS card and rarely my DL/wallet onto a job site. I just write the #'s on the form and someone in the office does whatever else needs done with it.

I am not surprised, though here is the verbage that suggests they should verify the documents themselves.

This is quite possibly the most pointless argument I have ever seen on this site. Who honestly gives a shit?

I believe in the existence of I9 forms and have since I had to fill them out when I managed a restaurant back in the late 1980's.

But I have no belief regarding whether RyeBread is wearing pants, since I don't want to think about it.

Many people that have to submit to extensive background checks never see an I9. I last saw an I9 in 2001. But since then I've had to submit to extensive background checks for every job I've had.

Many other people never seen an I9 but have to bring in their Driver's license, a Passport, and their "original" Social Security Card. Their employer is doing the I9 but the employee doesn't know it.

I never heard of a i9 form and I will tell you I never filled one out either, nor did I have to show my SS card for that matter. But I've been at my current job a long time, in fact I'm over half way point to retirement, 12yrs to go and I'm done

But do you have to wear pants when presenting the needed documents is the real question.

What a waste of time. I get arguing, but this is just plain stupid.

I've seen the form for most of my jobs since 2001. Don't think I've signed it every time though. I've worked for Public schools, private companies, and non-profits. Even worked as a private contractor for a summer....that's the one I'm not sure about.

RyeBread, I'm sorry you had to put your pants on and how dare you tell a story that may have inconsistencies on proper procedures for filling out a form you may have never seen before (that you admitted to never seeing before (which some may refer to as 'new')). Shame on you.

Ryan. You usually pay so much attention to detail I find it hard to believe your story was so full of inaccuracies.
