Default PSA-Purse Thief in Wixom

Just a heads up for all the ladies. There a scruffy mid-20's light brown haired guy driving and old style red Jeep Liberty stalking and stealing purses in Wixom, Novi, Walled Lake, Commerce area. He got my wife and dragged her when he drove off. Keep your heads up and eyes open.

No, just the fact that you are even pointing to her having a CPL would have changed anything is quite stupid.

First, about 95% of women that I talk to about carrying in general plan on carrying in their purse. Second, you CANNOT pull a firearm on someone without your life being in danger. A purse snatcher who will grab and run is not endangering your life, and shooting someone for such a reason will land the CPL holder in jail.

This.

As a CPL holder, you must determine when your life is in danger. A snatch and grab usually isn't life threatening.

However, finding the perp and inviting him to a blanket party at an undisclosed location is encouraged!

Thanks for the support. My wife's pretty bruised up, but okay. Honestly, I feel bad for not being there, but I'd probably be in jail if I was.

Just an update, so far the only confirmed use of a credit card was at a Highland Exxon Mobil.

I understand the CPL laws in Michigan very well. I would consider being draged by a purse life threating. I wouldn't carry a weapon any other way but on person. Just asking for trouble having it in a purse.

That being said let's not turn this into a debate on laws and weather being drug down the side walk could or couldn't be considered life threating. Sorry for my opinion that people are allowed to defend their life. I know it's not a popular view with most liberals.

No one is debating defending anyone's life.

Just debating the wisdom of deadly force in a snatch and grab, when simply letting go of the purse removes the danger.

Now- if the bad guy comes up, makes a gesture that he may have a gun and demands the purse, that is different.

just to play devil's advocate if she was dragged, it doesn't sound like it was so simple to let go.

780.972 Use of deadly force by individual not engaged in commission of crime; conditions.
Sec. 2.

(1) An individual who has not or is not engaged in the commission of a crime at the time he or she uses deadly force may use deadly force against another individual anywhere he or she has the legal right to be with no duty to retreat if either of the following applies:

(a) The individual honestly and reasonably believes that the use of deadly force is necessary to prevent the imminent death of or imminent great bodily harm to himself or herself or to another individual.

(b) The individual honestly and reasonably believes that the use of deadly force is necessary to prevent the imminent sexual assault of himself or herself or of another individual.

(2) An individual who has not or is not engaged in the commission of a crime at the time he or she uses force other than deadly force may use force other than deadly force against another individual anywhere he or she has the legal right to be with no duty to retreat if he or she honestly and reasonably believes that the use of that force is necessary to defend himself or herself or another individual from the imminent unlawful use of force by another individual.

So in this situation the OP said she was drug as he drove off. Read section A, I would think its reasonable to assume being pulled by a vehicle could be considered both imminate death and or bodily harm.

Monday morning quarterbacking is easy. Being in that situation is not. I am not someone who says "I would have". I am simply saying that hard this person (his wife) used deadly force and I sat the jury I would say she had the right.

My mother was a victim of a purse snatching. She eventually let go, but she admits that even in her 70's it wasn't her first reaction. It was more like 'Hey, my purse is caught on something... holy shit I'm being mugged!' In that amount of time she was dragged to her knees.
