Anyone drive a 2013 Volt?

With the lease programs they are currently running, this car may actually make sense...

Anyone drive one?

Basic model looking at 12k miles for $300, Zero down ($700 in fees but not "down" per se).

Fuel/electricity are worst case $60/mo with my driving patterns ($70 to operate a Prius)

Forget all the political BS, I don't care. The numbers are pretty hard to ignore and at least give it a fighting chance against other hybrids.

Aren't they kinda like a fat girl? Might be fun to ride, just don't want any of your friends to see you in one.

I had them go through our shipping yard, kinda peppy even with a nearly dead battery they will break the tires loose. Brakes take some getting used to and the vroom sound it makes when you push the power button is cool.

15% is for when you drive a cavi or focus. Driving a volt requires 5%, driving a prius requires spray painting your windows black.

I was just doing the same math - local dealership has them for $281/mo, 36mo lease, 15k miles/yr, $950 due at signing. It's actually cheaper (lease price) than the Cruze Eco, and for most of my commuting/work driving would run on battery for like $1.05 per day. Between Bosch and Consumers, the rebates on a 220v charging station (installed) is about $0.11 different than the cost, and gives a 4hr charge time vs 10hr.

I know there are charging station programs, but unless I can get it free I think I would just keep the standard. I drive 7 miles to work so I can get two plus days on a full charge, which would mean only partials every night which the standard could keep up with.

just posted this in the other thread...

a co worker just leased one, I think he's paying less then $200/month, and his fuel cost went from about $300/month to under $100, cost to charge the car is $25/month, so he basically is paying for the volt with what his fuel used to cost.

I haven't driven it, or even ridden in it, his wife drives it...

I would consider one if I had a longer drive to work.
10 miles one way doesn't justify needing a eco car over my Jeep.

I've driven my dad-in-laws, which I think is a 2012.

Really cool car. The brake reference is the regenerative braking, when you lift off the accelerator going into a curve or coming up to a stop it immediately slows down, and you don't even really need to touch the brake pedal unless you need to come to a complete stop. You get obsessive trying to maximize your efficiency ratings, which are displayed right in front of you. It's got some pretty good pick up too. Do it.

I've driven the company Volts and they're a nice, well-appointed small car. Torque curve (or lack thereof) on electric motors means snappy throttle response.

I'd do it if the economics worked, which (for me) they didn't last time I was shopping.

If the numbers work, do it!

Put it in Mountain mode, and the thing can be quite fun. Extremely nice car. I was really impressed when I drove one.

What is the residual value at lease end, assuming you return it in perfect shape and with no additional mileage, etc.?

I would consider it if it made sense economically. Last time I calculated the cost of buying it and savings, it would have taken something like 500,000 miles to just break even.

Sounds like some pretty good lease deals out there. I drive beaters, but factoring the fuel savings (compared to my DD SUV) would basically cut the net cost of the lease in half for me. Pretty tempting if I was looking for a cheap way to get into a brand new car.

Residual was something like 24k, don't recall exactly because, I don't plan on buying it when lease ends. In 36 months the tech will be better and I'd probably want to upgrade.

Buying at MSRP will take forever to get money back, but I seriously might do this at these lease prices. I can't explain how impressed I was with the drive and quality compared to the prius and fusion.

Just looked around. With up to $5k GM lease discount and $7,500 tax credit, makes leasing "cheap". I would actually consider one if it was a 5 person car, instead of 4. I would probably still prefer to get either a Toyota Corolla or a Ford Focus since their cost per mile is comparable to the Volt. (5year ownership: Volt $0.42/mile, Corolla $0.46/mile, and Focus $0.45/mile)

Also charging for 10 hours at a cost of almost $2 to fully charge an empty battery in order to drive 25-30 miles is more of an annoyance than serious savings.

Yeah, if you have to drive 30 miles one way, it would suck.

If enough Volts sell, the technology may end up in cheaper cars. Think plug in Sonic, lighter car means more range, although I don't know how much lighter it would be with that big honkin battery.
