as for the pain - I had a toe surgically removed due to a malignant vascular tumor that settled in said toe 29 years ago. I have also had several instances requiring stitches in the other foot due to my penchant for running around barefoot in the summer. (6 stitches in the big toe sucked)

I can state that for me, the pain of a needle and/or anesthetic being injected into my foot was a metric shiton worse than the numbing shot in the nuts and/or the actual procedure.

while the dull roaring ache from the nuts the 4 days after weren't any fun, it also didn't come close to the pain of raw nerve endings after a surgical amputation of that toe

Google "Permission from wife to have a vasectomy".... the results will astound you. Sounds like it's a very common practice.

I totally believe that something like this should be decided between a man and his wife, but for practitioners to go as far to require permission, and that there hasn't been a serious outcry because of it.. that astounds me.

while it may be a common practice, it is in no way a reason to accept it.

as far as I am concerned, there's honestly no reason why a urologist performing such a procedure even needs to know my reasons for having an elective procedure, let alone if I am married or not. HIPPA and ObamaCare and every other national federal database/bureaucracy be damned

I would say getting he wife's permission is a good thing. This likely saves the Dr. A lot of furious wife calls.

If you don't want another child wait the recommended time to have sex.
I know 2 guys that have had a child because they didn't. Both are married and yes they are theirs.
One is my bank branch manager- yes he told me.
The second is my neighbors grandson.

I totally get why they do it. The medical ethics behind it is what I am stuck on. Fat chance finding doc that will require a man's permission for his wife to have an elective procedure done.. Think... Tubes tied, Abortion ect. Women's rights groups would have a hayday with any practice that required a man's permission for a woman to do anything to herself. Google it. It waaay common. Guys go along with it. If you read the comments section women posters all say "damn straight my man need my permission" or "my man had a vasectomy done, I want to sue the doctor, and I'm divorcing my husband".

Very double standard.

I believe it should be a decision between a man and his wife, but ultimately, it is the man's decision. For doctors to be enforcing it so they don't have to deal with the fall out of a scorned woman is ludicrous. Like I said, any doctor that requires my wife's permission do to anything, I'm walking my happy ass outta there.

I had mine done when i was doing the divorce thing, ex's insurance paid for it (woot). Other than him forgetting to numb me and making it half way threw it sweating bullets it wasn't that bad (well when the feel good shot kicked in) as for having sexy time 3 days after ... don't do it my balls swelled up the size of grape fruit and i actually sat on them at work once ... worse pain than the surgery not being numb. I walked around fixing cars and dealing with customers with frozen peas shoved in my pants and after a few days everything was fine and dandy. Don't regret it one bit.

I had one about a year ago. I actually scheduled it the day after the wife left me. She had gotten spade after our second kid, now that I was back "on the market" I didn't want to start over again.

After the 30 day waiting period, the doc said they needed my wife's permission. After I explained we were getting a divorce they said they didn't need it. However, I was in a pinch for someone to drive me home the day of the procedure so the ex took me anyways, and they did ask her to sign which she did.

My after care directions said "resume sexual activity when comfortable" so 3 days later, with stiches still in, the then girlfriend and I went at it. Although we were a bit surprised when the vanilla milkshake she ordered came out strawberry And it did for the next couple of times. I was not warned of this, and a quick google search showed about 10% of men have that happen, up to a month!

As others have said, take it easy, frozen peas and beer are your friends. Stairs and whitey tightys are your enemy!

I had no swelling or discoloration, but had slight pain for about a month. Nothing to keep me from using it though :D

It is a HUGE relief knowing that part of my life is done!

And do take in the 60 day sample for testing to be sure (use condoms/other control till then) as it is so much fun handing the receptionist the cup with a wink and saying in your sexiest voice "this is for you ;)"

I think I can refrain from sex easier than getting cut on. In fact, after 22 years of marriage I KNOW I can....

About a week after I had mine, I was at half million dollar home to install a satellite dish. I beat the owners home, and met them in the driveway, The husband and his wife got out, I shook their hands and said to the Gentleman, "You look familiar, where do I know you from?"

Turns out he was my Doctor that performed my vasectomy! We had a laugh, and then I said, "Hey I need to bring you in a sample to see if it took, Can we I do that now?",..He laughed, the wife rolled her eyes and went into the house.

I brought in a sample to his office the next week.

It's no biggee - did it 24 years ago.

One note of caution - in addition to ice (do it), make sure you stay on the grounding pad for the cauterization. Otherwise, it introduces electrical current somewhere you DO NOT want it. Not enough novacaine in the world...

That is hilarious. With my luck, I would be batting a thousand that night.

You and I must've had the same dr. I joked "I smell smoke." Asian doctor replied with a chuckle "smells like barbecue"

LAY SOME PIPE
I had mine done at 22. Some things in life you just know. And I knew deep down in me since I could begin remembering that I did not ever want kids. Never once have I regretted my choice. Plus it helps LAY SOME PIPE

I did not need consent from anyone. Doctor did stop a couple time and re-asked if I was sure.

Only side effect I notice is when you have sex frequently, the cut tubes will swell inside I presume because that fluid has nowhere to go. So sometimes it can be uncomfortable but nothing that slows you down too much.

Yeah, I said "smells like bad Chinese in here" When he was cauterizing. Doc replied "that's you".

It's comforting to know that I probably taste like Panda Express to whatever ends up eating me :D

They didn't ask permission but they did consult both of us beforehand and asked if we were sure. She didn't have to sign anything though.
