Uhaul wont give you a dolly for it. They have a tow vehical to towed vehical weight ratio that they look at. I tried to get one not so long ago and they said no. I was gonna tow a buick regal with a regular cab Chevy 1500.

I flat towed a lifted yj on 33's from lansing to silver lake with my 02 tj. 4.0 nv3550 4.10 gears on 35's. I mean you're not hauling ass but I was fine, also stopped fine and went 65 the whole way.

Tickets for what exactly? If he has tow lights and a proper tow bar shouldn't he be alright?

Only ticket he may get is if a DOT guy really really really knows his shit, then he's looking at an exceeded weight limit ticket. He has a better chance of being struck by lightning while hooking up to it before he leaves.

I have flat towed lots of stuff with an 87 1/2 ton 1500 from out of state back.

I towed a gutted civic using my tj from traverse city to GR thinking cause it only weighed 2k it would not be a issue.

The thing with using a tj is that your going to have sloppy turning, very bad breaking, and the thing will try to push you when ever your not on the throttle.

I ended up taking back roads at like 40mph the entire way it was a pita.

It was a kick azz civic back before all the movie junk and totally worth getting for the 3 months I had it before taking it into the woods unintentionally.

There is a place by me that rents car haulers for $65 a day. I have used them 4 times this year alone. I borrow someones truck, get whatever I need, and give them a full tank and some beer etc. It is the smarter way and despite breaking out the window on the suv last time I made it right ($$$$) with the person I borrowed the truck from.

Don't use a rental truck to haul a sami, cj, or compact car. Even with proper ramps its a pita to get it in and out unless you put the truck against a hill/ditch. The thing will not move worth a dang up any grade, is top heavy like a mofo, and does not have good strap downs.

If something does happen how you going to explain what that cj was doing in the back of their rental truck as well as the legal implications.

Do it, take less traveled roads at off peak times to minimize idiots around you, and don't try to drift in the corners.

weight limits are commercial vehicle laws, are they not?

possibly unsafe load?

Pretty sure if you get stopped and you are over the GVWR as any Joe Blow your goignt to get a ticket.

If nothing else it opens you up to heavy liability if SHTF.

Because they are a helluva lot more fun to wheel than a TJ?

I got my CJ2A together 6 years ago. My YJ has not been touched since, and until I got a family I had really no desire to.

The CJ2A fits more places and IMO will go more places than a mild built TJ or YJ.

You're probably right.... I don't know...... I don't overload my own shit
But I would expect some type of the-only-thing-we-could-think-of ticket.
