SO did we and a whole 3 channels to enjoy NBC, CBS, and last but not least ABC. You had to get up and tune the TV tuner and play with the rabbit ears to get better reception if you changed channels. Sound familiar ? Also every night at midnight they played the Star Spangled Banner showing a flag blowing in the breeze as the station was ending it's programming for the day. Ahhhhh the old days !!!!!!!

I thought you could still legally ride in the bed if you are 17+ sitting below the bed rail.

Nope we found out the hard way at least that's what the cop told us that pulled us over. We didn't get a ticket just a warning. So I guess it's possible that he was lying to us but he wasn't being a dick as we didn't get ticketed . I just took him at his word.

Cop told my firefighter cousin up north that as long as we were on 55 and under roads we were fine as long as my previously stated criteria were met.

Interesting.

Btw, just had to watch that awful commercial.

I don't think so I think you have to be in the Passenger area. Or if seat/seat belts are added.

I was watching my friend set up his camper. I was amazed at the awning.
The first trailer I remember we didn't have one attached to trailer. We just used tent poles and a tarp. Then we got a Winnebago. It had a track, we'd slide in an edge then use tent poles.

Interesting.
Ive been pulled over up here with buddies in his truck and he had a middle passanger on the front bench seat, however for whatever reason the truck did not have a seat belt there anymore. Cop wrote him a seatbelt ticket, then made him get in the back of the truck to ride home. This was last year.

Right off Michigan.gov

Question: Can a person ride in the back of a pickup truck?

Answer: It is unlawful for any person under the age of 18 to ride in the open bed of a pickup at a speed greater than 15 miles per hour on a public roadway. MCL 257.682b covers this in detail.

257.682b Permitting person under 18 to ride in open bed of pickup truck prohibited; exceptions; civil infraction.

Sec. 682b.

(1) Except as provided in this section, an operator shall not permit a person less than 18 years of age to ride in the open bed of a pickup truck on a highway, road, or street in a city, village, or township at a speed greater than 15 miles per hour.

(2) Subsection (1) does not apply to the operator of any of the following:

(a) A motor vehicle operated as part of a parade pursuant to a permit issued by the governmental unit with jurisdiction over the highway or street.

(b) A military motor vehicle.

(c) An authorized emergency vehicle.

(d) A motor vehicle controlled or operated by an employer or an employee of a farm operation, construction business, or similar enterprise during the course of work activities.

(e) A motor vehicle used to transport a search and rescue team to and from the site of an emergency.

(3) A person who violates this section is responsible for a civil infraction.

History: Add. 2000, Act 434, Eff. Mar. 28, 2001
Compiler's Notes: Former MCL 257.682b, which pertained to persons authorized to be transported on school bus and to first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and traffic flares, was repealed by Act 188 of 1990, Eff. Aug. 15, 1990.

So if it's a cucv Chevy Truck, rules don't apply. : thumb:

I wonder why the cop stated 55 mph, seems to be a small discrepancy

Yeah I was talking with my son and he said he it seems to depend on where you're at some cops enforce it and others don't. I was just taking the cop at his word he told us it was illegal anymore to have passengers at all in the bed of a pickup. Maybe the reason he didn't give us the ticket after all is he knew it really wasn't illegal. My wife, myself and a buddy of mine were in the back of another buddies truck cruising through Marshall at one of their car cruises never got over 25mph as traffic was bumper to bumper. The cop followed us for awhile and when we pulled off the main drag to a side street he pulled us over.
