The most interesting thing is the scalability of the system. As more units are built, the cost conceivably drop below that of a conventional mechanical cam system.

This is on its way to all engines in the future:

And there are several tier 1's working on other ways...hell the SAE magazine just did an article on one of them. Electric super and turbochargers are on their way too.

There's also good reason now to migrate to a mid voltage level system in vehicles. I'd almost bet you see it in OTR trucks first though as the payoff is greater.

Not really part of the solution. The issue is getting the OEMs to decide on a standard, and getting the semiconductor market to make enough parts (especially regulators, diodes, and transistors) capable of the higher voltage loads without adding cost.

The problem is its a big paradigm shift. All the ways of testing and specifications go out the window. charging and starting systems all different, harnesses, fusing, etc.

OEMs just like to make minor changes to the old documents and keep on with the same-old same-old...

I like how the data acquisition in the video is ancient but other then that its bad ass.
