In my business, I encourage people to buy their own fixtures. I can't make enough on them for the time I take hunting them down.

Yes it is. Customizing a vehicle is such a niche area that it doesn't compare to a typical "my shit is broke fix it" garages.

Correct. Because in the end, you cited price over quality. That's all he was sayin'.

Jim bought aftermarket parts and took them to the mechanic of his choice to fabricate and install them to his likings.

catalyst bought aftermarket parts and wants to take them to the mechanic of his choice to have them installed

It's not different.

Would unlimited offroad or JCR or any other fab shop react to a customer the same that nuggest reacted to catalyst if someone showed up with a set of shocks, heim joints, a few sticks of DOM and tubing for links and an atlas and said build me a jeep?

Why is it any different for this guy to show up with an aftermarket clutch and flywheel and say please install this upgrade for my vehicle?

No I didn't.. I bought a lightweight racing flywheel and clutch disc/plate from ecstuning (one of the largest enthusiast parts sites for Audi). Its not like I bought some Chinese potmetal shit or even duralast. The best part... I bought from a Michigan manufacturer, too. I didn't want to deal with another oem dual mass, flywheel because I'm pretty damn sure that's what failed given the noises and symptoms.

I never sacrificed quality for price. In fact my ENTIRE intent behind this thread was to find a reputable shop so I wouldn't sacrifice quality. I hardly think shopping around for a more economical shop is being "cheap". It's not like I walked in the shop and tried bartering. Lol

You are missing a couple key elements.

1) Bryce was not a dealer/retailer that could purchase and then resell for part of his profit. He had no financial advantage to offer. In fact, in some cases, I was able to buy cheaper than him. (ask him where all the DOM for his buggy came from)

2) We had an agreement before anything was purchased or any work was done.

That's great, it doesn't sound like he bought an off the shelf clutch that every shop would just go out and pick up for him either.

You're missing some key elements too....he bought an aftermarket clutch, doesn't have the time to install it, he already said the car has been sitting for 6 months and he just wants to pay someone to install the clutch he had originally planned on installing himself.

I don't understand why everyone wants to give him such shit for that, you included. He just wants a reputable shop, to install a clutch he bought long ago for a car that has been sitting for a while.

I know you may already have the shop picked out at this point, I know this type of stuff happens at Euro Tech in Holland quite a bit. I have heard nothing but good about those guys as well. However it would be quite a drive for you.

I am not giving him shit for what he did by picking out his preferred parts. I am giving him shit for telling Nuggets his business is a scam.

How about Munk's in waterford? I drive by there all the time and all they have out front are Audis, vws, porsches, and the occasional Ferrari.

I never said his business was a scam. I said the billing practices in the industry were a scam. I think it's bullshit that mechanics make so little compared to the host shop.

I could say the same thing about waitstaff at restaurants... I could probably bitch about the banking industry and multi-million dollar bonuses that the tax payers fronted. :)

Besides, I said that only after he pretty much laid me out being the scum of the earth for being so cheap that I bought my own parts.

It's great that he had so much impact that he entirely derailed the thread from the 2nd post. That's some serious trolling.

I'm really looking for first hand customer referrals. Not to say monks is bad by any rate, I just don't want to take the gamble unless someone else had large job done and can vouch for them. Thanks tho I'll do some more digging. :)

On topic. For what it's worth, Monks has been around for 30 plus years.

Mufflers and more in Walled Lake. I have taken several vehicles there. The owner, Kenny, is a great guy and he deals with aftermarket parts all the time. He tracks a Panoz. Way more exotic than an Audi.
