The passengers should be able to make calls/text. Just because the driver is irresponsible doesnt mean that they have to not use their phones.

How would I rock out to Miley Cyrus streaming over Pandora if cell signal was blocked. I would be outraged.

I never text and drive.

I'm too busy watching movies during that time.

I drive a Fiesta as a DD. Luckily when I was rear ended at a dead stop by an uninsured and suspended license texter I was driving my F250.
40mph with zero braking to a dead stop.
I was able to drive my truck home. The dodge Nitro was fubar'd

I wonder how many people get into accidents watching porn on their phone. I want those statistics. Smart phones are the devil, we were never ment to have that much at our fingertips.

I see it all the time, I drive bus. One lady was caught by me, I opened my window and asked "what kinda phone is that? I'm in the market and..." She gave me some dirty looks and was chirping down the road, I saw lips moving. She never complained to my company though.
Another girl was doing it, i opened the window and asked "is that the iPhone?!?" She laughed at me and got away, I caught her again and she was still doing it an. Laughing when she saw me the second time.

I'm posting on Great Lakes 4x4 while driving back from spending the last of my EDT card on name brand foods and papers, at the Kroger store on my Obama smart phone. I paid for two weeks worth of car insurance a year ago, and park my car in the neighbors barn, because they have been trying to repo the damn thing.

I do not give a damn about your opinion.

I was on my way home from work last week, it was ~2am. I live in a rural area. I see a car pulled to the side of the road. Pulled up, Kicked on my overheads, rolled down my window. Asked the driver who appeared to be 17-18ish driving if he was ok. He said, "Yep, I'm good, just got a text, so I pulled over to read and reply to it."

I was surprised. Here he was, middle of the night, no cars, cops around, and this kid was responsible enough to pull over to check his phone. I said, "That's a refreshing sight to see, carry on, and good night."

Are you kidding? The auto companies are profiting off this left and right by adding ridiculously stupid systems that work like shit like Ford Sync and Chrysler Uconnect. One of the biggest pushes that auto manufacturers have right now is to have the most tech friendly cars available that will allow you to sync your phone to your car.

Texting while on the bike is difficult, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

There are apps that use gps and brick your phone if you are going over 10mph. It's intended for teen drivers, and there is a second "master" phone that can control the settings on the app. I think it can be set to just block calls/texts or to fully brick the phone. Pretty good peace of mind for parents with young drivers. I still have 10 years before my kids start driving and I don't even want to think about what they will have by then.

I had this thought too. I can't disagree. However, short of disabling the phone, there's no amount of laws that will stop these idiot shits from texting.

The whole problem is the same thing that occurs with EVERY problem in society these days. Its the "not me" mentality. People bitch and moan about texting while driving, or speeding, or tailgating, or drunk driving, or obesity, etc; and all the while, they typically do those same things that they complain about others doing because "I'm still a good driver".

Nope... This is America. Its not OUR responsibility to fix our problems. Its the car or phone makers problem.

That is EXACTLY what my co-worker reads, every day, to and from work, 60+ miles one way. In the winter, in the mornings, he is driving with his dome light on reading the Good Book. I just don't get it. I like the guy, don't get me wrong, he's just putting himself and everyone else in harms way. I've even thought about buying it for him on CD...if it wasn't $60 I probably would.
