Default Cost for transmission swap

My TJ needs a new transmission, and I've been working so much, I don't have much time to do it. So I was considering hiring it out. I won't go to a commercial auto repair place, but hopefully a local guy who works from home.
Its a 2000 TJ, 32rh automatic transmission. No conversion or anything, just pull the old and put in the new trans I already have.
A guy my dad uses called me, but he said it would cost $800 and take he and his friend 2 days. Obviously not a trans guy. I'm no professional mechanic, but I've done them in an easy 8 hour day a few times.

i can pull mine in about 2 hours but if you snap any skidplate bolts, you will need a welder and some time to fix that. if nothing breaks, 3-4 hours for the swap.

If you want to travel to Waterford, I got a trans guy who would probably do it for $300 to $400. He has plenty of experience, been working on transmissions for more than 10 years.

I think $200-300 is fair.

I have done 2 trans swap. Hardest swap would be 99 Explorer 4wd with NO HELP in 100oF humdity for 1 1/2 day.

That sucks. I was actually surprised how hard it was to find one. I got one at a boneyard right by me. I just might do it myself, but no garage and a dirt driveway is getting tiring for this 38 year old.

I found a mechanic in Richmond to do it for $350. I'd rather make the money plumbing for the day and pay someone than do it myself. Damn, I'm getting lazy!

I might turbo this one so I might have to pick your brain at some point.

I Googled "used auto parts search" and found a site that gives you a list of local yards that have what you're looking for.

Take your wife shopping for a weekend get away in Petoskey..........
Look up Joe Howie in Boyne City (http://www.mechanicadvisor.com/mi/bo...s-transmission) he will have your removed transmission back to you within a few hours for $200...

I have used him more than a few times on different projects..........My wife likes the shopping trips too.

Please post with results of low bid, uncertified, unregistered, Johnny Backyard trans swap. Sometimes it costs less to pay more.
