Been lookin for a replacement Daily Driver /tow pig for my current 94 F150 2wd. I have been over working the crap out of the 150 for a few years now so I was tryin to find an older F250/350 since I really like old junk. Have had no luck and even started to concider buyin a Cummins Dodge. Well as my luck seems to go I just had to wait long enough for the right truck to find me.

A friends dad had this truck sitting in a yard full of cars/trucks and was looking to get rid of it. We actually worked out a trade for an old 86 Mustang I was tryin to sell so I got the truck for no cash outa pocket.

Its a 1988 F250 factory 460/auto 2wd body with 68k on the clock. Its sitting on a 97 f250 4wd chassis minus its 5.8 drivetrain.
If you look at my avitar you see the obvious reason why I had to have it.

The body is 99.9% rust free.Only bad spots are where the paint was scratched. I plan to have some touch up work done and preserve the factory paint job.
Im dropping in a 93 460,c6,205 and Im pulling the d60 out up front and reinstalling the factory d50. It has 3.55 gears so I might go a little larger than the factory size tire to drop highway RPM with the c6. And in an effort to try something different Im not goin to run the factory ecm. I plan to install a Megasquirt ecm and build my own engine harness. I think this 460 can be a little better on gas and in the power department running off a modern ECM that reads real time off a wide band o2 sensor.Im already running Megasquirt in my little turbo Ranger and plan to run one on my efi 5.0 Truggy Ranger once I put a Kenne Bell blower on that one.
I already have a list going for LMC Truck for all new weather strip, rubber floor, seat covers, all new lights and misc stuff. I will put new windshield in and will built two new tube bumpers with a front winch mount.

Nice! Love that style truck! I recently drove a 350 dumper with a 460 across the up and got a whopping 9.5mpg unloaded. Im excited to see how good you get yours up to!

I learn more about Megasquirt everytime I plug it in so Im sure I can make it run better than the factory Ford speed density crap. My 88 2.3 turbo ranger is getting 25mpg running 25psi of boost everyday and I beat the hell out of it everytime I get behind the wheel.

Curious as to why you'd put the TTB D50 back in?? I'm not a huge fan of mine. It seems like more work than they're worth. Which also seems to be the common consensus in the OBS world.

I was wondering the same thing with the puling the 60 out and then throwing the crappy TTB 50 under it. I know its not as strong but I would rather throw a HP44 swapped over to 8 lug in it over the TTB 50.

But I am liking the matching trucks. Plus for it to be that clean after sitting is shocking.

The d60 wasnt part of the trade. The guy threw around wanting 1k cash on top of the deal for me to keep that axle. The d60 swap was never finished and all the factory TTB brackets are still on truck and the TTB is in the bed complete.Im not planning to do any wheeling with this truck so I see no need to have it jacked up in the air like it is and then try to finish the axle swap. It would be much easier to just put it back to stock for me.Plus it should ride and haul nice with the TTB back under it. I did get a set of f250 TTB diesel leafs for the front in the deal to better handle the big block since this chassis was just small block.
The d50 looks to have fresh rotors and brake parts as well.It makes it easy on me that its already out so I can throw each half on the bench to go through them and do u-joints,bearings and bushings.I need to find lock outs to replace this Auto 4x4 shit hubs it has tho.I dont even understand how those things work!

Makes sense I dont mind mine to bad after new ball joints, outer u joints and wheel bearings. You can buy brand new leafs from Jeff's bronco graveyard for $215the I need to do this since mine are sagging after 290k miles and causing it to angle the tires.

Was able to start getting some things done this weekend. Got the bed cleaned out and pulled shitty liner out. Pulled bed off to make working on stuff easier. Going to do a roll on bed liner up over the rails. Still in shock how clean the metal is.

It just kills me that the 97 chassis is so rusty. So far Im lookin at replacing the shackles and frame brackets, brake lines and hose, shocks and Im going to pull hitch off to replace old hardware with new grade 8 stuff. Plan to pin hammer the hole chassis then coat with something, not sure what yet tho.

Got my motor home now and started to check it out. Its a 89 7.5 that factory rated at 230hp @3600 and 390ft @ 2000. Was Ford serious about those numbers??

Anyway motor looks to be pretty clean for not knowing the mileage on it.

And here is the factory upper intake I plan to replace with one of my own. Will be making a sheetmetal plenum with a single blade throttle body thats at least 75mm.

What's your reasoning for going that big?
Doesn't seem very practical for a tow rig

How does it not seem practical? Makes perfect sense to me.

I was goin to put a 75mm turbo on it and that would require new forged pistons. Decided to ditch that idea and just keep it simple and add another 100ci. Depending on the condition of the shortblock it will need at minimum the crank polished, rods resized, new bearings,rings...worse case it could need crank grind or replacement, bored, honed and new pistons.

For around 1300 I can get a new 557 stroker kit with all new parts.Cast crank,H beam rods, hyperutectic pistons in 3 different sizes and all bearings and rings. Even if my shortblock is in perfect shape it wouldnt be a whole lot more to just buy the stroker kit.

With the stock heads, stock cam,my custom intake/throttlebody,big injectors and Megasquirt ecm running it all it should make an easy 400-450hp and I bet dam near 600ft/lbs.

Call me crazy but I think it sounds perfect for a tow vehicle! I love tuning with MS and I see no reason it wouldnt return decent MPG either.

Just seems like a motor that big wouldn't be happy with stock heads
I would think it would need more air and more air requires more fuel
I'm not hating on the idea just asking an honest question, it just seems a little over kill to me that's all
Seems like it would be hard to get good mpgs out of something that big, but you very well could prove me wrong
It would be cool either way
