I love service members, current, former. I don't care so much for those who claim they will join.

I like Hancho so much he gets personal invites to my office when he goes through security. Kickstand loves the Corps even though he didn't join, so gets gets invites to the airport bathroom where we pee together and have long talks.

I love Jarheads. Of course I am biased, but the arrogance of Jarheads will never subside. For those who served, thanks. For those who support, thank you.

I also love Army, I am marrying an Army vet. She's cute.

have a great day.

Anyone wish the stayed in and retired?
I do. I miss it a lot. But my knees and hips were killing me from all the runnin and humping. My section chief was 36yrs old and looked over 50. He had to take pain killers every mornin just to go runnin and had a bad limp. I said Ef it! I'm out. I'm not killing my body. It took 2 years after getting out till my hips stopped hurting.

I approve of this message.

I have and always will respect those who served. Whatever branch, whatever job, whatever tour. You signed, you served, I appreciate it.

Years ago, 2 former members from here were sitting at a bonfire after a trail ride.

Both marines.

One very proud of his marine-ness and wanted everyone to know he served, close to the point of "dude give it a rest" ness. I mean, thanks for serving but shut up about it.

The other, had a few "I was a marine" tattoos, but otherwise no mention of it. Lots of respect for him.

Marine one says to the other, so did you do this, do you read this website for former marines, do you do these get togethers etc?

Marine two says "I WAS a marine"

The conversation ended awkwardly, but marine two earned a lot of respect from me that day.

Well it is interesting to hear from other people that served about where they were and what the did. Cause there's always a chance you could of been standing next to them. But when it gets to the point when it sounds like they are bragging and tryin to one up ya then it gets really annoying.

When I was recalled from the IRR on to active duty I was originally supposed to only stay for an extra year but was enjoying it so much and working in a great unit with great people so I voluntarily extended for an additional year.

Near the end of that year, I was ready to reenlist back to active duty and was going to go to Stuttgart, Germany to work at the G3 in MARFOREUR for at least three years. Everything was all set and then at the last minute a hold was placed on all the Marines on the East Coast in preparation for the surge in Iraq and I wouldn't be going to Germany.

Looking at ever increasing odds of getting sent to Iraq or the option of just ending my voluntary extension, I basically said, "Screw you guys, I'm going home!" and cancelled my extension and reenlistment. The day that I was leaving to drive back to Michigan I stopped by my old office in the morning and answered the phone when my potential boss in Germany called to tell me they got my orders approved. I told him it was too late, I'm packed and my Jeep was idling outside waiting for me to hop in and head north.

After a few months I regretted that decision. I've since gotten over it though.

Yea. I was sorta in the same boat when I got out. They kept telling us we were goin to Iraq then the last min they would send us somewhere else. They sent us on the 31st MEU because they sent everyone to Iraq and needed someone for the MEU. Then we had a combined training op in Greece which was badass! Also was in the Philippines training with them. Once we finally got back to Lejune they said, now you are goin to Iraq. I had 3 mo the till EAS. The battalion commander told me either I reenlist and go to Iraq with zero bonus's or go the fvck home! I said F'it I'm out! I wish I went but I had a lot of friends that had gone and already came back, they were sayin go home.
I was sent to HQ battalion for the remainder of my time. They wanted me to reenlist and stay with them. I was really tempted. I told them what my old CO said and they said they don't care and I was with them now.
I was very tempted, I was with a lot better people. But I was already set to go home and start a new life!!

I'm still in! Hit six years last January and I'm contracted for another six years after I finish flight school. I'll be at my 20 by the time I hit 37!

Same thing. These whirly birds are fun to fly though. Especially in the simulator where you can do whatever maneuver you want without worrying about your spouse winning the SGLI lottery!

I've been having a blast so far, really they aren't hard to fly. All you have to do is scare the guy in the left seat enough to take the controls and then it's smooth sailing from there!

Shooting them off the side of a ship was good times too. Killed a few 50 gallon drums practicing for the small suicide boats that never came.

Best care package attempt was my mom sending a birthday cake for my 19th. Too bad it took 2 1/2 weeks to get there and was moldy. I appreciated her trying. We had an awesome store on our ship that always had batteries and snacks.
