Da'fauq?

So a NE Patroits football player has been taken into custody for a murder charge. Big deal, it seems a lot of them are overpaid thugs. But I read the charges, and this one struck me odd.

Quote:
,In addition to murder, Hernandez has been charged with 1 count of carrying a gun without a license, 2 counts of possession of a large firearm, and 2 counts of firearm possession. He has pled not guilty.
WTF classifies as a large firearm? Never heard of any charge like that. Especially considering the next paragraph is this...

Quote:
The DA said Lloyd was shot multiple times in the groin, arm, side, chest and back with a .45 caliber semi automatic weapon before his body was discovered last Monday.
So, is a .45 now considered a large firearm?

I think it is just a retarded writer sensationalizing the gun charges to make the firearms seam more "evil".

ESPN.com article has slightly different wording...

Quote:
Hernandez, 23, also was charged with one count of carrying a firearm without a license, two counts of possessing a large-capacity firearm and two counts of possessing a firearm without an FID card
.

This must be because of the crazy 'high capacity' laws that they just passsed or something. Next question, is what is defined as 'large capacity' for .45

Answered my own question... So, here's some information for the curious....
Cliff notes, over 5 for shot gun, and over 10 for everything else.

Quote:
1. "Large capacity weapon" is any firearm that is semiautomatic with a fixed large capacity feeding device, or capable or readily modifiable to accept such a detachable feeding device, or employs a rotating cylinder capable of accepting more than 5 shotgun shells or more than 10 rounds of other ammunition, or that is an "assault weapon." "Assault weapon" has the same meaning as federal law. "Large capacity feeding device" is a magazine or similar device holding more than 5 rounds of shotgun ammunition or more than 10 rounds of other ammunition.

Don't worry, just because he is an NFL player doesn't mean he will get away with murder.... Oh wait.
