OK! So, pretty much my axle build has been on hold due to work slowing down. I want to get my wheels and tires before I start any work on the font axle so I can figure out exactly what I want to do as far as links and how/where and so forth.

Here is as far as I got axle wise.

Goodies for the 9' (may have posted this already)

I got new center section studs and stover nuts also, cant find that picture.

I'm an idiot and ordered the wrong size caliper brakets, so I had to open them up.

Made a little fixture at work and burned them out.

Made this little thing to do the air compressor trick to hold the calipers where I needed them for tacking

Bottom skid made from .250 EX TEN-50 steel, I may have to modify it if I decide to shave it.

All done for the most part. Just need new shafts, and the fill/inspection plug TIGed in, and to do a small back truss. I'm still deciding if I should shave it or not

Until I have the cash to get tires and wheels, I decided to start doing some work to the chassis wiring to clean up the amount of wires going to the doors, to ease door removal.

I wanted to keep the power windows, but not the locks. What went from "ill just pull these out and snip at the harness" turned into "Re wire everything!!!

Ill update that tomorrow, I'm tired, but here is a teaser(a crappy one)

Now is the time to do the shave on the 9", it's not difficult at this stage.

About halfway down page one if you need ideas.

I actually was creeping your thread about 3 Days ago. Have you had (or worried about) oiling issues, or cooling issues?

I have not and I don't. I always use synthetic oil. However, I don't do much highway driving either. Right after I did the shave I drove from Zealand to Rockford (about 45 miles) and I didn't notice it being too hot to touch.

That's good to hear, though I am planning on having a lot of road miles with mine. As soon as its drivable and shaken down its driving to Drummond island.

My plan for the interior is to keep it simple and functionaal wile retaining a somewhat of a factory feel. So pretty much if the XJ was a CJ (If that makes sense)

The whole wiring cleanup was pretty much an accident, the intention was to just remove the power locks from the doors and cut the wires at the main harness that runs along the tub.....

Well then my A.D.H.D with the help of too much Monster turned in to this.

20130423_141645

Then this.

20130426_142406 by xj bmx, on Flickr

I discovered there is TONS of extra wires that run from the dash to the tails, I kept the rear wiper/washer, plate light, and the defrost for the hatch. For the tails there was about 4 extra wires that did nothing and I removed the backup lights since my NSS is removed from the trans and is just left in "drive". I plan on adding a fog as a backup later on.

This is about half of what I got out of the harness from the dash to the hach.

20130427_203334 by xj bmx, on Flickr

So this was my silly little idea. I didn't feel like ordering non stick tape online(I found a place locally after words but o well) , so I got the next best thing.

20130502_134841 by xj bmx, on Flickr

I made a little razor blade fixture to cut the roll in half so it was about the same as real harness tape just nice and visually annoying

Its probably not the best idea, but its sexy and I tested it for burning next to some real harnes tape and it burned damn near the same so should be good.

Wile the seats were out I got a bit curious.

When I got the Jeep, I was the pizza dough boy at Papa Romanos, so I was covered in corn oil all day, the shit soaked in to the divers seat and made it damn near water proof.

Drivers skin.

Headrest one washed one not. Fucking Yuck.

20130502_025639

Since the Drivers and Passengers seat foam is the same, I used the best foam from both to put the drivers back together.

20130504_031011

To be honest that was all a waste of time since Shes getting a set of suspension seats once the the interior is back together.

Now that I had the harness from the dash back done, it was time for the window shit.

I wanted to make it as simple as possible, wile not making the Jeep look like a space ship with switches all over the place.

My first attempt was to use a set a set of lighted swiches out of a Land Rover but the switches were SPDT and I would have of needed to wire a dick ton of relays (granted that would be better) so I went back to the JY looking in GMs since I knew they had the cool looking chrome switches. When I stumbled upon this bloody perfect set out of an old Burban.

(ignore the sparkly thumb)

20130506_124703

I cut out the coin(?) pocket of the console and it snapped in perfect, it just hangs over about .125 on the right corner. I may adjust it later if it bugs me enough.

20130506_131219

As for the wires to the doors, I wanted some sort of a clean through connector that could be flush mounted to the door jamb, with a wire that would just come out of the door and clip in.

For some reason, that doesn't exist in a small 2 pin connector, Anything I found was either huge, or 4pin or more. The closest thing I found was these from Deutsch and they are 4pin, and are huge in person. http://forum.ih8mud.com/attachment.p...8&d=1303362681

So I went to Terminal Supply and found out that I could make my own mounting base plate due to the way that Deutsch makes all of their connectors to be able to use many different tie downs and what not.

Got four sets of 2pin connectors. and real harness tape

Untitled

Made these at work. The connector clips into place, but I may add a dab of sealant around them once done.

Untitled

They will be welded here.

Untitled

On the door side I will just use a sealing grommet to feed the wires through, but haven't got that far.(allmost up to date!)

Oh and speaking of welding..

Got this Monster from work, Miller 252.

20130524_121328

20130524_124303
Of course there was a catch, it needs about $700 of parts. but i figure For $700 I get alot more welder than I would if I payed the quoted $1200 for a Millermatic 180 from Airgas

Oh in my searches for connectors, I found a West Marine not to far from me, and found this cool little thing and decided to replace the Cigar lighter with it.

So at this point I started addressing the failing Hurculiner, I used a DA sander and alot of scapeing with a putty knife. For now I just got everything that was peeling and cleaned and primed the bare metal. I'm still deciding if I want to remove it All and just go paint, or just re Hurc over it all.

20130612_204254

Next was to attack the dash, I wanted to see how much wires were back there, and what I could get out. As it turned out, there wasn't much that could be pulled, and from a wire standpoint was a waste of time, other than just knowing what goes where.

Wile I was in there, I pulled the AC core and sealed some gaps up to hopefully help with the the air movement.

Went Full Retard.

20130614_212950

Hvac contraption out.

Pasghetti

20130616_165201

Open.

20130616_134026

AC out.

20130616_135147

With that out there was a big gap that the foam didn't seal to the fire wall, so I used a coffee can lid, some RTV and some interior screws to seal it up. trimmed it after it dried to allow the vac lines to pass througth.

20130617_201836

Since there was no back seat for years, I removed the ducting that ran through the center console and patched the hole for it, hopefully it adds a bit more heating power to blow on the floor when the trans hump heat isn't enough.

Hole for the rear duct.

20130618_211328

Patch

20130619_200727

AAANNNDD that's about it for updates I have most of the dash back together just need to finish getting some wires re-routed and bolt it back in.

The next task is taking apart the steering column to remove the the Park lock cable thing, (I don't like my Jeep telling me when I can or can't turn my Ignition on or put it in park) and start re assembling what I can.

So I've been lazy and not updating this, granted I haven't got much done sice I have no garage.

Anywho, I'm back at it and with any luck she will be on her own four wheels by fall. My goal is for it to be ready to drive to the 2015 Easter Jeep safari. Or at a minimum just able to drive by then haha.

On to the crap anyone cares about, Pictures!

HD Engineering, no lift shackle boxes.

Rubicon Express 1" shackles.

2g battery cables all marine grade from West marine.

Super start AGM battery, new starter, a small 8g ground for the block to the head just for the hell of it.

"Vandal resistant" momentary switch for push button start, the led lights with the on switch I haven't wired yet. I need to get all the accessories installed that go through the factory ignition switch installed (radio blower motor so forth) so I can get a proper max amp reading and wire accordingly.

Final install

Wanted a safe center console, but wanted a normal ish look.

Trimmed.

Made a lock for it but forgot a picture of it.

Thats all for now more to come tomorrow morning.

No switch manual door plate things since my window switches are on the console now.

When I started this interior gutting, I didn't know the beauty of having a nice interior so I trashed anything that wasn't steel.. I've since got an Audi for a dd and a girlfriend that I not only don't mind hearing her talk, she also loves all things Michigan and up north. So after two trips to her cottage in Arcadia, one in the Audi, and one in my 97 Cherokee that is also basically stripped out I've decided I like the quiet. So I bought some replacement interior panels from the JY (obvously it will never be as quiet but any bit will help) to help atleast stop the tin can effect this thing has.

Any way.
Two front Laredo and the rear are standard sports. And a Laredo hatch. All quite mint. Since my shop bought a vacuform company im going to replace the cardboard with plastic so it doesn't mold and disintegrate.

Took a map pocket from another set of Laredo door panels at the JY and mounted it on the lower dash...thing under the steering wheel. Should be a good place for my phone or extra magazine or what have you.

Yes alot of this stuff is just wasting time wile holding of on alot of the big stuff that needs to be done. Mostly due to low funds for now until work picks up again, 40hrs means broke haha. So im just doing all the little odds and ends now so they aren't bothering me come crunch time.

Thumbs up

Also wile playing with ideas for a keyless start I created this amazing anti theft start switch.

http://s74.photobucket.com/user/mooo...03844.mp4.html
^VIDEO!

Sadly I dont think the switch could handle the amps (granted its only about 1.5a or .15a I don't remember now)

I always loved the challenger steering wheels, but hated the horn button. So I took some measurements and made two pieces at work. One that goes under the front set of spokes and gets bolted with the allen heads. The other is the ring that centers the Jeep emblem. The emblem is actually the sticker that goes on the Cherokee centercaps.

Im going to use normal Allen head bolts to mimic the factory jeep steering wheel a bit.

Wile trying to get a good measurement of how many amps run through the ignition ON switch I found the hvac blower motor was ceased and the resistor was toast. So
New motor, resistor, and wile I was under the hood a a/c pump delete.

Since I have a complex of "while I'm in here" I decided to clean up the perma mud that has been here for years. (I hate mud now btw)

Under the coolant reservoir

Gross.

Some simple green and a tooth brush.

Remember that complex.

This was nasty and the idler was on its way out.

An hour or two with a Dremel. I would have sandblasted it but since the fan bearings are a non replaceable part I decided against it

Hit this all with a "cast iron" color engine paint. It looks gold ish here for some reason, I used the samw color on my axles and it looks more of a OD green/grey/twilight vampire looking color. I may redo this with different color.

That's about it for now. Im going to try and get all the nuts and bolts that came off of here black oxided since I was dumb and wire wheeled them all.

Steering wheel is cool. If you wanted to keep your anti theft switch you could use it to drive a relay. Only slightly more complicated.
