I am all for the private parks. But I think the blend is a good thing.

I am curious as to how much it would actually cost R&V. I find it really hard to believe that the rocks and equipment to deliver and set them cost 100k.

He said just the rocks, it was probably $1.1M to get those $100K of rocks into place with the state running it.

$26 or $36? The way I read that it will cost $36 for an ORV sticker that is at all meaningful to any of us that drive street legal vehicles.

I am not reading all of this. I vote to increase the cost of ORV stickers. If they are going to use the money correctly, I say increase them x 4 or more . You can upgrade your vehicle for $1000s of dollars, how about some kick ass trail upgrades for $100??

I have the numbers but will need to dig them up. Also, it requires some heavy equipment for the size of the rocks at the mounds.

For the price of our ORV stickers, we have some pretty good play areas.

I am lazy, copy and paste from my post on GLFWDA

Well put Bob - as I have mentioned in several threads over the last few years, the old $16.25 price rolled forward for inflation would be in the range of +/- $30 today. However the DNR has added 500-600 additional miles to the system, plus the rocks at St Helen and the Mounds, plus the routes on Drummond Island that have at least a modest amount of 4x4 challenge so from a purely geeky numbers guy point of view, $36.25 smells about right.

my take is you could do any of the scramble areas (Silver Lake, St Helen) with the $26 sticker, I would guess the rd leading to the St Helen Motor Sports area is a county road not just an ORV route.

Based on the e-mail I received from Trail_Fanatic this morning, the $26 version is only for non-SOS licensed vehicles that will only be operated on the shoulders. 4x4 users will pay the full $36.25, along with (I assume) most of the other users

Most state parks require this pass... even Silver Lake. The $10 Rec Passport that you purchase with your tag gets you in the state parks instead of buying the day pass. Non-SOS ORV's are required to by a day pass at parks like Silver Lake as well.

Just an FYI....it went up to $11.

"At $11 - starting Jan. 2, 2013 - the Recreation Passport remains a strong value for Michigan residents
Two years after the Department of Natural Resources introduced the $10 Recreation Passport as a new way to fund state parks and outdoor recreation opportunities, the DNR today announced that - effective Jan. 2, 2013 - the purchase price of the Recreation Passport will change to $11. The Passport is required for vehicles entering Michigan's state parks, recreation areas and forest campgrounds."

I guess my question is then, if Im going to the mounds in a 4x4 jeep, I would have to buy a $36.25 ORV sticker, and pay the entrance fee for the park too correct? Guess im just confused on what all the $10 dollar tag fee all covers, sounds like its just state parks like on lakes and campgrounds more than ORV parks.

Yes, the tag fee has nothing to do with ORV's. You only need both at Silver Lake because it is a State Park with an ORV area.

No. Just ORV and gate fee. It is not a state park.
