He used an AK in Nam? When did the American troops use AKs? Or is this one of those "everything with a stock is an AK47, everything without is a Glock" situations?

That's what it sounds like to me, they may be having break in problems. If this old man did this all the time that place would be flagged for sure. You would have heard about.

I found out he is the owner. His son is the person who runs the place.

It's pretty simple...

You have a Vietnam Veteran guarding your hotel. In the middle of the night he hears people moving around downstairs and has no idea who they are or what they're doing. He grabs a rifle and checks to see wtf is going on. Once he verified that there was no threat he promptly apologized and returned to his room.

Doesn't sound like an issue to me.

He's the owner.

You saying you wouldn't do the same thing in your house?

Did you call ahead and notify them that you'd be checking in that late?

I've had the reservations for 4 months, they knew we were coming in late. They have me the door code and left our room codes in an envelope by the front door.
It's not a house. It's a hotel

I've never went to a holiday in and been welcomed with an AK

Meh... I would sleep easier knowing he's actively protecting the place and his patrons.

I've done a lot of wine and beer tasting in that region and spent a lot of money. The room is just a small part of what you will spend. LOL. Never been greeted with a gun though.

You came in late and instead of quietly going to your room, you admittely wandered around and made no effort to be quiet. That is nothing but fucking rude. In fact, you were so loud that the owner no longer could think that it was late night guests arriving but instead some hoodlums possibly robbing him.

He owns the place.
He protects the place.
You should appreciate that or leave.

Agreed. Most of the time the common areas are closed anywhere between 10pm-12am for quiet hours. Sounds like this guy strictly enforces it.
