I think this would get the job done but may be outside of your budget...

X2 Get the $99 4th of July special and call it good. Only had one ever "break", it hit a rock and bent the crank. It still ran and you could mow with it, but you had the harlem shakes for an hour afterwards.

Otherwise there is this new thing called Craigslist. It seems that it is a place for people to list used items. Have a look see.

I have a 6.5hp Craftsman that I'm pretty happy with. I bought it used 3 years ago for $25 and I think it was already 3 or 4 years old. Has enough power to cut the deep stuff and is pretty good on gas. It is a little heavy but the fwd helps a lot. I think it's a Briggs motor, but not sure.

Would that fall under the Michigan right to farm act? Maybe the people at 16th and country club would let me borrow theirs...

Sure why not. What's the worst that can happen with a cop living next door? Just tell everyone you boy is in 4H and this is his project and if they have any questions to go talk to him.

I think of everybody in the neighborhood, he would care the least. Well maybe the drunk behind me would care less, but his wife would.

I bought a craftsman w/a 7.25 Hp Briggs n Stratton. Cost me $250+. I hit a 4x4 post that I didn't cut low enough and it bogged down for a sec and kept going. I used it after that and no issues. Id buy another if I had to.

i was able to find a cheap non self propelled Husky at tsc with a Honda engine for $249 two years ago. Has big wheels on the back and came with a flimsy bagger i never use and a side chute. it was the only non self propelled mower i could find with a Honda, all the other ones were the $99 throw aways.

I have had great luck with this Honda mower. Best one I have owned so far. I do change the oil and put new blades on every year. Which costs around $30.00

I'm guessing either 0 maintenance or they are cheap asses and buy a $90 mower to mow 2 acres of 10" tall grass because they are too lazy to go out and mow when it's 7" tall.
